Is moissanite tacky?

I think they are pretty.

What kind of deal did you get, OP. I'm in the market.

I want my engagement ring to be made from moissanite. Compared to diamonds, they are more sustainable, have more “fire”, brilliance and clarity, won’t lose value like diamonds do (all over priced) and I don’t have to worry about them being mined in a conflict zone. I hope eco friendly gems become more popular. I wouldn’t care what someone thought of my faux diamond ring.

Spending a ton on a diamond that you can never recoup just to have a diamond is what I think is tacky.
Waste of $$.
Best story a friend told me. Her boss wears a significant size but somewhat understate diamond. Everyone compliments her. One afternoon she told a bunch that it was a cubic zirconia. No one knew. Why? When they married there was no money. Now, 25 years later, they are beyond wealthy, but she loves the ring's significance. And she likes it.

OP here, thanks everyone. I felt really confident about it when I bought it, then wavered a minute, but back to confident about it! You're right - who cares what other people think, I'm super excited about the sparkle!

Definitely go lurk on r/moissanite - I just scrolled through a few pages and found links back to FAQs and it was really helpful. Since this was my first time buying, I went with a Chinese vendor that a lot of people on there seemed to like. I just got one of the standard rings they offered, but a lot of the women on Reddit get beautiful custom rings made. One of my best friends in grad school has a moissanite engagement ring, but back then they were all tinged a little green. Based on what I saw on reddit, it looks like moissanite has come a long way in the past 10-15 years.

I love gray moissante. So pretty.

I actually love moissanite. It has a really cool background and very much the same characteristics of a diamond. At least you don't have the blood of children who mine diamonds on your hands.

This. Good grief. I actually appreciate when people show me their true colors - makes it easier for me. A “friend” once judged a car not knowing it was what my husband drove. It was helpful to know how shallow she was.

Judged it in what sense? What did she say about it and what was the car? I need more details please.

Why do you need more details? Are you going to defend the friend based on your assessment of the situation? Or are you just a nosy b?

Nosy b obviously - I'm just trying to picture what the friend could have said. Is it "People who drive Land Rovers are tacky and immoral" or more like, "Ew, Kia Souls - what, do they hand those out with SNAP benefits"?

We drive a 10 year old Kia Soul, by the way, so no shade there. Just trying to picture what the friend might have said - if it's punching up or down, and why PP was so deeply offended instead of being able to laugh about it.

I say wear what you want if you enjoy it and it makes you happy. Life is too short to care what other people think of your fashion choices. The ring sounds nice!
