Oh my G-d... this time 1000! Please let this happen. I'm soooooo tired of extremists on both sides, and progressives should be aware that when law-abiding citizens sense disorder it scares them into accepting "strong men" who promise to restore order. |
Please. Please. The insanity is just too much. We now have democrats arguing for no school and no order. It’s all just too much. Where are the sensible adults? |
Agreed. And the overwhelming majority of DC teenagers aren't carjacking or killing either. |
You mean no one is disputing that we should be lenient on the kind of "teens will be teens" stuff that privileged white kids have been getting away with for generations? Thanks for your generosity. |
| Shoplifting =/= MURDER |
|
+1 I agree with PP that black kids were disproportionately charged for crimes such as shoplifting, pot smoking, etc. as compared to white kids. But the solution to that problem is not to just give all crimes committed by minors a lenient sentence/response. |
So your white kid should be executed by the police for using a fake $20? |
|
It’s all part of normalizing the abnormal.
You are not supposed to be upset by the homeless and their encampments, illegal immigration, crime, etc. You are supposed to suffer with dignity and be compassionate. Nevermind you are a taxpayer and a productive citizen. You need to be compassionate and shut up about anything that brings down the quality of life. |
I think this is a good observation. |
+1. Values. |
Please just stop responding, you’re making a fool out of yourself. |
| For the past year these girls have watched the media and our elected officials excuse and even encourage mass looting and destruction of private and public property. And now you’re surprised they felt entitled to another persons car? |
There are war torn countries were children face much more horrible conditions. For all this talk about “privilege,” a lot of people in the US don’t realize that the most destitute people in this country still have running water, access to smartphones, heat, and a lot of other things that are luxuries to truly destitute people in the world. Everyone in this country has privilege relative to a sizable percentage of the world. |
| Because as a policy matter, the DC city government believes that crime is not really the criminal’s fault, it is rather an effect of more general social conditions. Further, they seem to believe that mass incarceration is a greater even than crime. Both considerations argue for more lenience in criminal sentencing. I personally don’t subscribe to either view, but its not like anyone is making a secret of the reasons that are driving these policy choices. |
