What do you refer to your nanny as?

The people who do this are generally the same type who would refer to a longtime receptionist as “the admin” and never bother to learn their name. It reeks of insecurity.

This.

+2 It is a very classist way of operating - very much viewing her role as that of a servant. It does reek of insecurity and the parents or at least the mom is probably not a very confident parent.

We have had the same nanny for 20 years and she is part of our family. We use her name except when we say "nanny" as a clarifier.

I thought your post was going to be "do you call your nanny a nanny or a babysitter?" because I've had some people correct me and say, "you mean 'the babysitter'" as if I didn't know her role lol. There are some people who are horrified that anyone has a nanny.

Our nanny has chosen to be called “Nanny” and all the kids’ friends and their parents call her her Nanny as do we. If I used her real first name, people wouldn’t know who I was talking about.

I’m called by my first name by adults and Miss first name by children. Everyone knows who I am, because I’m with the kids whether parents are there or not.

Haha we call our nanny “Nanny.” Her given name is Nancy and her grandkids call her Nanny. She loves it.

If the person I'm talking to knows my nanny, then of course I'll use her name, but if they don't know her, then I refer to her as "our nanny" because otherwise they wouldn't know who I was referring to.

Same here. Just pay me correctly and respect my time and we're good.
