But yeah, it’s frustrating now because Vets and vet techs were in the 1A group, so most out not all will have been vaccinated by now. So really, as long as masks are worn it would be reasonable to allow pet owners in again.

Not in Virginia. Vets are in the second part of group 1b, which at least fairfax county hasn't expanded to include yet.

We see two different vets in Virginia who've both been vaccinated as part of 1b.

And other vets haven't been. A friend is a vet in another state and only got vaxxed after signing up as part of the Medical Reserve Corps to administer vaccines. Clearly everyone's experience is different.

Not at that hospital, but I had to take my bird to an avian vet, and the vet was on the phone with me to answer all my questions, while the bird was in the exam room and I was in the parking lot. It was great.

For my dog, I call on Dr. Perl, who is a really nice and down-to-earth mobile vet. Instead of coming into the house as usual, he sees dogs outside in the yard or driveway.

NP. How are doctor Perl's prices? That sounds very appealing.

$100 for the housecall and separate prices for meds/tests.

Vet tech - most of all of our hospital is vaccinated. We were allowed with 1a. I would be fine having clients back in the hospital- I’m over the whole getting pets from cars/communicating via phone etc..

+1, our vet speaks to us extensively outside.

Wait.. OP.. no humans allowed what does this mean? The doctor is a cat also?????

I am in Rockville and our vet uses zoom. They have an iPad in the room with them and they tell you which number to call based on which exam room they are in. So you’re watching what they’re doing with the dog the entire appointment and can have a conversation. I just sit in my car on my iPhone talking to the vet

Not all vets do this. Out vet (MD) started only allowing one owner to accompany the pet when covid hit. Still hasn’t changed. If it’s important to you to go inside, call around and find a vet that allows this.

Ours called us during the exam. We were sitting in the car outside. She didn’t rush us and answered all our questions.

Also not in Maryland. Veterinarians and their offices were 1C, and not in the initial group. Many veterinary hospitals are not large spaces, so keeping staff as safe as possible is difficult enough without having clients come in for appointments. Personally. I don't mind waiting in my car, and prefer that strongly to waiting in the lobby and an exam room.

I love the new system. I hope we don't go back!

Agree, although I am sympathetic to the vets and appreciate that they worked through this whole period. But we had to have a conversation about end of life choices with our vet while sitting outside on a crowded patio, and then put her down in a corner of the parking garage where only 1 person was allowed to be with her. I know it's nothing compared to humans who died alone in hospitals, but at this point people are doing regular doctor appointments, etc so seems like vets could do some in person appointments.

NP. I'm sorry for your loss, PP, and that would be upsetting to me too, even though of course we understand the reasons behind it.

Today with cases practically zero in our area, our vet STILL does not allow people to enter facility.

Vet practice owner here -
The AVMA has not given the green light for vet practices to open fully. Actually, they have given little guidance at all since telling vets to close their offices to humans. It is frustrating to us to have to deal with a lack of direction too.

How about using common sense? You are annoying your customers. Massage therapists, physical therapists, doctor's offices, dentists, etc. are all operating and working with humans with no incident.

Vet here - Fact is we can get the job done without letting you in. Cannot do all of those other jobs without letting you in...Why do we need to rush to exposure when we are not certain which clients are vaccinated and which are not? How about THAT common sense? Honestly a large portion of my clients WANT to keep it like this - they go run an errand while the pet is with me. We do a video call with the owner during the exam.

This pandemic has us SLAMMED. We are exhausted. Have common sense and general compassion.....
