Beach FC (VA) -- Staying with CCL or moving to GA/ECNL?

The only way for US Club Soccer to keep up their lifestyle is to give everyone ECNL because NPL is dying nationwide.

I disagree and that’s not happening. Think about it. “Hmm, we need to give everyone a ecnl slot because npl is dying.” 😂 If true, there will be 100 ecnl clubs just in the dc area.

Beach lurker here. So, I would say we are definitely better than ECNL-R. We played some full ECNL clubs in a tournament last fall and beat one and tied the other. If we went ECNL I know we wouldn't be at the top, but maybe middle of the pack. Depends on the age group and gender though. Some would fare better than others. I don't think the club is moving in that direction though. I have not heard anything that would lead me to believe we are changing leagues this coming year.

You beating an ECNL club is not the same as beating an ECNL team. Two totally different things.

What do you mean? My kid's team played against two other ECNL teams in their age group. They weren't ECNL-R teams. They were ECNL.

I mean that you can play a team from an ECNL club and the team not be ECNL.

07 and below parents still don’t understand that none of this matters until after puberty. Half the kids you know will be gone

Ok I get what you mean. Best I could tell they were their top team from their club and that age group plays in the ECNL league. They weren't from NOVA though, so probably not as good as the teams up there.

ECNL teams are not as powerful until puberty and consolidation occur. Typically, for girls, starting around U15. At U13 and U14, it’s a fair field.

That consolidation doesn't happen for us like it would for teams around DC. We have two CCL teams and no ECNL. We have Beach and Rush. A lot of the consolidation has already happened at U13. The better players usually go from Rush to Beach, but some stay at Rush for their own reasons. There are a few players on Rush that I wish we had, but it's not enough to make us be able to beat DC teams on a regular basis. You have to think of the size of the metro areas. DC has 6+ times the population of this area. Reallly more though, because the peninsula kids will be more likely to go to Richmond than VB to play on a better team. So for every one solid soccer player we produce, you will have 6 to 8, maybe more. Also, Beach doesn't move players around as much. I wish they would though, but it's not their style. There are at least 3 kids I would drop from my son's team and pick up from the second team, but I doubt it will happen. It's not because they are inferior kids, but their heart isn't in it. Either way, I like the drama of this forum. It's also a good scouting tool for some of the teams we face. You guys change teams more than you change your underwear. It's hard to keep on top of.

That makes sense. If you guys can get that Hampton roads and Norfolk athletes to play soccer you may beat all of the encl teams in dc. Imagine Vick or iverson playing soccer!

You can’t be serious.

They are merging with FCV.

I have heard this too. I believe they will be known as FCV South.

So we played this Newport News team in a tournament this fall. They had a kid who was really good. Full on striker material. We beat them handily, but I kept thinking I wish that kid played for us. Going from Newport News to VB to train is not easy. Nobody wants to go through the tunnel at 4pm to go anywhere around here. Norfolk is not a small city, but we get very few kids coming from there to play. It's mostly VB and Chesapeake.

Yea. But imagine if iverson played soccer...

Ha, maybe. The thing is, you can rearrange the deck as much as you want, but you will still be facing the same kids on different teams. The players will still be players. The cream always rises.

Have you seen ECNL south of DC? They could easily get one. Greensboro NC, Wilmington NC. Columbia SC. Not exactly big cities with stellar soccer resumes, but they have ECNL clubs.

Actually - at least on the boys side - those clubs have been eating the NoVA clubs alive for years. Beach is most definitely not on the same level.

Beach is very good. They won’t get ECNL because Richmond wants to control as much territory as possible; they do ok when they play ECNL teams at Jeff Cup, etc.

Beach FC is one of those clubs that is hard to figure out. They usually put out competitive teams, but they don't win much on the boy side at least. We've played them and they have some good players, but not enough to really challenge for much.

Thats right. And TSJ is rumored to be considering a billion dollar resort/sports complex project on the beach to go with.

Beach FC can’t punch themselves out of a wet paper bag after U14. They’re a little kids club. Just like loudoun was for years. Best talent migrates to RU.

Did you guys know that one of the only clubs to ever get kicked out of ECNL was VA Rush from the beach.
