Having a registry is not tacky. There are ways that it can be distributed that some might interpret as tacky. The discounts alone are valuable.
Every frenemy and acquaintance you judge has loved ones who likely want direction on a present to give. A recurring question on this blog is what should i get for so-and-so who just had a 2nd baby. Most people post that question specifically bc they dont want to get a gift card (too transactional). |
| Not OP, but where are you all doing your registries? The Amazon benefits aren't as good as they were for my first baby. The only benefit I see is the 15% off? The welcome box is sh!tty now too. |
I did this. But it was also a way for me to keep track of all the things we needed/wanted to buy for the 2nd go round. I think maybe only my MIL asked for it so I sent it to her. |
I did Amazon, Target, and Buy Buy Baby. Buy Buy Baby is nice because it applies to items that don't usually qualify for their coupons. I didn't actually use my Target one at all either time. Amazon is so convenient, it's worth it for the discount alone, but yeah, the "freebies" that go along with it aren't that great. They changed "baby bucks" to a 20% off diaper discount that's only good for your first $300 in diapers. |
This. Some people will want to buy things for you. Having a list is nice. Or let them know what stores gift certificates might be helpful at. |

STM: I made a registry just to get a completion discount. I didn't need a lot. I still have lots of stuff from my 18 month old.

They did away with this now! I remember getting $100 in free diapers on my first baby's registry like 4 years ago. |
