It would be an bad move for Arlington. Only good teams are the Richmond teams. PWSI and VSA are dwindling sending their best players to VDA. VYS bleeds players to McLean. Tidewater is a joke, rumor is Virginia Revolution is doing ECNL-rl and that’s also laughable. Stafford is mostly a mediocre club with 2-3 not awful teams. Overall it’s a less than talented league. If Loudoun and Arlington went I don’t think anyone in CCL would miss them, but even then it would be a very bad move. |

On the boys side, it is showing Arlington and Loudoun in the Carolina's Regional League. I'm guessing the VPL teams will join?

Don’t these clubs only have two teams in the MLSNext league? I would hope these clubs are making decisions for all the age groups and not just chasing shiny objects. |
Yes they only have two age groups, 2008 and 2007. They will go back to EDP most likely because they'll all play each other and there are two or three other good teams to play in Division 1. |
Yes. Arlington are walking a bit of a tightrope here. But right now everything appears to be speculation - so let's wait and see what Arlington actually do. |
Yes they will be in for 21-22, but many were hoping this was just a holding year because they got the girls in the ECNL and that the situation would be re-examined. I don't think there are a majority of parents in favor of ECNL Boys over MLS. |
The exact language reads as follows: Our Academy program (U13-U19) currently competes in the Elite Club Champions National League (ECNL), which is a nationwide youth soccer league geared toward the elite male soccer player. Arlington Soccer will field Elite Boys teams in the following age groups for the 2021/2022 seasonal year: U12: 2010 & 2011 Birth Year U13: 2009 Birth Year U14: 2008 Birth Year U15: 2007 Birth Year U16: 2006 Birth Year U17: 2005 Birth Year U18/19: 2004/03 Birth Year Unless I missed another reference somewhere, I do not interpret that as stating that those teams will necessarily play in ECNL next year. That said, the longer there is no announcement about MLS Next, the more likely this appears - and the e-mail that came out after the girls were awarded ECNL did seem to suggest tha the boys would also play in ECNL. Count me as one of the parents who hopes that we move to MLS, but I am beginning to think it's not happening. |
So is Arlington putting their boys Red teams into ECNL Regional? Wow, not a fan of this move! |
Not sure why they would either. Maybe just for the name. Their red teams aren't really lighting up the CCL right now. |
Nothing announced yet - and I have no inside information - but I doubt they would do this. My guess is that if teams are entered in this league it would be the white teams and the red teams would stay in CCL. But that is most definitely just a guess. And red teams seem to mostly be mid-table CCL, with a couple down rather lower than that although not bottom-dwellers and a couple rather higher. That says to me that they are in exactly the right place - so it would be hard to sell such a move to parents and kids unless other clubs are also moving at the same time. |
Agreed. But you gotta have that brand name to keep those country club kids playing as they descend the soccer ladder from U9 to U13. If you are still traveling across state lines, it must be better, right? And it’s the same patch as the first team except for the unfortunate dash and R following ECNL. It won’t surprise me at all if they do this. It’s a sucker-rich environment, with a lot of disposable income coupled with a desperate need to maintain filial social status among a bunch of idiots who don’t know any better. |
I get your underlying point - except that I rather think the parents of red team kids DO know better. At least they know that ECNL-R - as currently constituted - is a big step down from CCL. |
Does anyone know if it will be reconstituted next season? |
|
there are not that many good girls in NOVA. Arlington is average
|
Yes and ECNL sees a chance to take over all levels of competition for a club. ECNL gets the A team. ECNL-R gets the B team. Then they will create ECNL-M (metro area) for the C team. Everyone thinks they are on the same ladder then. |
