20k engagement ring

Don't worry about these reactions PP. Some of the smallest engagement rings and cheapest weddings I've seen have been int eh D.C. area. The people are so stressed out by student loans and housing costs that they can't afford nicer options.

First I want to say that you all should do you.
2nd, how did two people, who think engagement rings costing $20k are ok, get together. I don't even know two people who would buy an engagement ring in 2020s. It's so 80s and 90s.
It's like all those grandmas with their jewelry. What a waste.

My engagement ring was $26K 10 years ago, so no I dont think 20K is too much. If your income is $200k+, that sounds reasonable.

OP here. It wasn’t a brag. A friend is planning to propose soon an asked how much I spent and where I bought it. He told another friend and they both said I was crazy for spending that much on a ring.

If someone asks you this you demur.

Omgee if you can afford it and she appreciates it then it is totally a-okay! This is a subjective question. This is my subjective opinion.

Happy proposing!!

Mine was $20k ten years ago. I love it. If she loves it consider it fine and move on.

It's all relative. If you are happy and you know that she will be happy then everyone is happy. Stop telling people how much you spent. Congratulations.

Mine was that 20 years ago. Love my ring.

Sounds nice and I hope it’s at least 2ct and super white

Of course it’s a ridiculous waste of money, OP. I hope that you are already financially independent (meaning you never have to work a day in your life if you don’t want to) and I REALLY hope that you have absolutely zero debt...

If not, then a ring that ridiculous should signal to your potential fiancee how utterly foolish and terrible with money you are...

There is no way this can be true? I am 29 so many of my friends (plus myself and 2 siblings) have gotten engaged in the past two years -- we all have diamond engagement rings.

But if it is true, tell us what your circle is like. I'm intrigued!

Maybe you don’t know that many people?
