SAES//Burke/Field/Flint Hill-- rank

Anonymous
I have known kids who were recently in all of the schools except Flint Hill. The kids all came from the same class in a tiny school and moved on to Burke, Field, and SAES. The kids had similar learning profiles (all had some mild anxiety or executive function issues but none needed support from the schools.) They are all thriving. I would think it really comes down to which school feels like a better fit...My kid felt like the walls were closing in at Burke and that was enough to move that down from first choice.

All the kids are bright and test well. My kid took SAT and got 1500 despite executive function issues and no extended time.

Good Luck

All things being equal, the physical campus at Field is just amazing. Lots of open outdoor spaces, as well as a fantastic view. It’s an inspiring space for learning that’s hard to describe if you haven’t been able to visit in person.

If Field isn’t able to revive the internship program then they lose a key selling point of going there. It’s worth asking

Seriously? Field has a great view. It does not come close to having facilities comparable to SAES or Bullis.

Meh, to each their own.

This.

And if Field ends up as your only option, then go public. There is something seriously off about that school.

SAES is great for the right kid. As terrible as thre Trumps were, they made a very good choice for their child. Burke is great, although i agree on basically just two small buildings and no real campus.

But avoid Field entirely. And ignore the parent posters on here who try to pull others into what is the school equivalent of a Ponzi scheme.

After several years as a Burke parent, I have to say I really like it. I even like the small campus. Burke has been very conducive to my kid making friends, trying new things, and learning without feeling too much pressure. Sports are better than I feared but not as good as I hoped.

Ranking these schools without knowing the kid doesn't make much sense to me. For some, Burke would be the clear first choice. For others, not so much. Same for Field and SAES. We did not look at Flint Hill and don't know anything about it.

Oh good grief. Field isn't a good first choice for any child.

Everyone keeps talking about it for kids with learning disabilities, but it is a terrible place for those kids. It has very inexperienced teachers and only recently got its first learning specialists. And it's not a couple of kids in each class needing accommodations, but lots. We visited twice before Covid and the classrooms were chaotic. Everyone we know with a child there has tried to transfer out. A mess.

I'm a Burke parent and Burke would be my first choice among all of these choices (my kid actually turned down Big 3), but I hear wonderful things about Field.

Who says wonderful things about Field? Definitely not anyone with direct experience over the past five or ten years. That place is a mess.

I have a hunch that this negative Field poster is a former teacher/administrator. Interesting how they never identify themselves or report any recent or accurate information. I’m super curious to know who it is. I have my suspicions. They’re obviously still
unemployed if they have the time to constantly dredge up ancient threads about Field. Pathetic.

The info I received is all from the last 10 years and mostly from the last 5 years. The parents were all serious about schooling and were themselves very academically accomplished (graduates of tip-top universities or liberal arts colleges). Some, but not all, had children who really needed a lot of individual attention.
