Predictions for this 2nd Grader---AAP?

Anonymous
Is your child likely to have strong work samples? Also, is your child's DRA maxed out? Even though the GBRS is a little lower, are the comments very strong, and are there a lot of concrete examples?

Since they have so little to go on this year, I wonder if they'll place more emphasis on grades, DRA score, parent questionnaires, and work samples.

OP here. Applicants DRA is on par with the class. I do wish her GBRS scores were better but virtual and 2nd grade hasn’t boded well for my kids.

Let’s hope the 4th grader has a chance.

It seems like your 4th grader (from the other post) has more of a chance. Honestly being able to show success in Adv Math is critical. And that sibling has it if read that post correctly

I would say this child’s chances of being admitted are very slim. You need one data point which points to the need for something more than the general classroom. That means a very high GBRS, a test score which hits the 132 mark, etc. it sounds like your child doesn’t have one of these high areas. Because of this, I think admittance into the program will be very difficult.

High NNAT but not through the roof.

Applicant only had one Consistently Observed and 3 Frequently Observed?

Does this applicant have a chance for 3rd Grade AAP or should I not hold my breath?

How high is high? If 94% and under, forget about it.

Yeah, under that. Over 80% but well under 90%

The fact that you won't post the actual score speaks volumes.

Jesus, this is the same person? I feel sorry for the kids' teachers.

lol. It certainly seems like it's two kids to one parent.

So frustrating that some AARTs give out GBRS now and others won’t. Should be standard across FCPS.

I don’t get this at all! But you do have to request it. I’ve felt with numerous AARTs over the years and they are all over the place.

I have requested it but our AART will not give them out until AFTER notifications go out whereas others are getting them now (a month before others).

FCPS policy is to not give them out until after but some AARTs ignore that.

I don't think this child has a chance. Sorry, OP. Like someone else stated, your oldest child has a better chance.

Anonymous wrote:If in pool on NNAT as opposed to parent referral I say decent chance. Hard for me to guess with the unusual way it is this year.

Fwiw - I have two kids in Aap and one in K & I just think the program / fcps is changing and that the program may not exist in the current form by the time my youngest is old enough.

What is the difference between teacher referral vs parent referral? Is it just who completes the package?

It means a child was referred by the Teacher. The Teacher thought the child belonged in AAP and wanted to make sure the child was considered. Parents can refer as well. In a normal year we know the in-pool test scores and parents will choose to refer a child who was not in-pool.

ANYONE can refer, even the child can refer himself.
