WETA - If You Lived Here

I've watched. There is one Black person per episode, if that, on a show about D.C. neighborhoods. At best, it's a caricature of public television.

Yeah, I wish, instead of the Wharf apartment, at the end, they'd looked at another of the MCM ones - like that one you see in the quick establishing shots that has this huge fountain/pond thing in the courtyard or the high rises that seemed to be near the townhouse they looked at.

That one with the large central fountain overlooking the Potomac is Harbour Square, right across the street from the Tiber Island townhouses. It's a very nice place to live. The historic Wheat Row and Duncanson-Cranch townhouses they mentioned briefly are also part of the Harbour Square coop.

You didn't pay much attention to the resident interviews in the episode about Southwest if you think that.

Right. It was really striking how absent voices from people of color were for the Shaw episode. But the SW episode was more diverse - especially showing neighbors who're diverse and the historian lady they interviewed emphasized the racial and economic diversity of the neighborhood, presence of (and residents comfort with) public housing, etc.

Yeah, it's cool the way they both worked serious landscape design into the overall architecture plan. They've both stood the test of time well.

A fun show, but it doesn't seem to feature anything that is actually reasonably priced or affordable.

Many of the neighborhoods visited so far have properties for sale in the $200K range -- why not include them?

The 1/30/2023 episode is a perfect example. There are condos and townhouses within close walking distance to Olney town center listed between about $175K to $275K, but the least expensive property the hosts looked at was nearly $600K and needed a complete update/reno.

My 2 cents!

Man, I’m so old. I remember when most of the HGTV shows, like House Hunters, were DMV episodes because the Discovery Channel is headquartered in MD. A co-worker of mine in the 2000s was often used as a “local expert”. The shows would either be filmed in the DMV or Canada.

I will have to check out this series.

Is this the WETA show that featured the Popville jagoff as a representative of DC culture? Or was that the DC in the 2000s show. Either way, including him was just cringeworthy.
