Don't know why everyone is being so mean and unhelpful.
There are no direct flights from DC but you can connect through Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, Salt Lake, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta as well as Newark or Boston. United, Delta and American among others all fly there. Bozeman is so much easier to fly into than small mountain airports in Colorado - huge runway, little turbulance. Also lovely airport - fireplaces in waiting areas and a restaurant so nice my family asks to get to the airport early so they can eat there. As others have said, look at houses in Moonlight if you want ski on ski off. If this is for 2022, there is a Montage hotel opening as well that should be fabulous. The main village/town area is actually separate from the ski resort (about three miles down the hill). Great for restaurants and shopping but not if you want ski on ski off, you will need to grab a shuttle to ski. |
We just did this exact trip two weeks ago. It was great.
No non-stop flights to Bozeman that I saw - we flew from Dulles with one stop in between (Charlotte the way there, Dallas the way back). Rented a car at the airport. Drove one hour to the resort. We found a great ski in ski out place on airbnb. Buying lift tickets was super easy - all online, and you pick up in kiosks around the mountain. Our kids did ski school, and I also recommend it. On many days they got 1-1 instruction. It's $$$ though. Much more expensive than any other ski trip I've taken. |
What’s makes it more pricey? The lodging is pricey? |
Don’t know much about Big Sky, but Bozeman is expensive to fly into- at least for a domestic destination. |
No. And Montana doesn’t have a mask mandate which is likely why OP is picking it |
But Gallatin County does. But it's probably barely enforced outside of Bozeman. Big Sky Resort claims to require masks. |
Yes it’s for 2022.
Well late December 2021 into January 2022. I know it’s far in advance but I think planning a big trip will be a fun thing to look forward to. (No I definitely didn’t pick a place because there wasn’t a mask mandate. Would someone really do that? Isn’t that asking to get COVID?) Thanks for all of the tips. I have been looking at some lovely homes but I do think the resort that an earlier poster linked may be the easiest option. Convenience is key with the kids. |
If you want convenience think about Utah. Nonstop flights. |
I think the Montage will be open by then. If you want a resort instead of house and high end. |
I have gotten super cheap flights to Bozeman during ski season before -- much cheaper than flights to Dever or SLC. |
Flying into Bozeman last year was not terribly expensive, more than Salt Lake City, but not by a lot.
There are a LOT of ski-in/ski-out houses that are very easy for even novice skiers. There are a lot of small lifts that exist only to connect houses directly to the slopes. |
I haven't been to Bozeman in a while, but had always found it to be one of the more expensive domestic tickets. Usually above $700 RT, which in my experience is a lot more than DEN or SLC. |
Because OP is lazy and hasn't done any work. These kind of posts/threads by lazy people bring out the best in DCUM because they slam down on the idiots who made the lame post. |
I have some amazing Airbnb‘s in the Spanish peaks area that I will try and find and paste. Best area to stay in at big sky. Skiing there is very easy with Covid testing everywhere |

We typically share this with another family... pre-covid The buffets at Spanish Peak & the amenities were amazing. Have not been since New Year’s Eve 2019. |
