Apparently she studies bonobos there: https://www.today.com/health/ashley-judd-recalls-catastrophic-leg-accident-congo-t208952

I have a lot of questions about how/why Judd is involved with long-term primate research, but that's the reason.

Yeah, did she REALLY need to check on the bonobos IN PERSON right now? Seems a bit self serving. Now she's using health resources that the people there might need.

In her defense she has acknowledged her privilege in the treatment she is receiving.

Have a friend who has been in the industry for nearly 40 years - has worked with everyone from Madonna and Michael Jackson making videos to Spike Lee and Martin Scorsese on full length features, from the Sopranos to the Marvel Universe. When I once asked him who was the worst person he ever encountered he did not hesitate to indicate Ashley Judd. Said she was “spoiled, unprofessional, hard headed, selfish, insecure, unreliable and a bit crazy.”

I hope she gets better but I bet there is a back story.

Why was no one wearing masks?

You don’t know what she was doing and nor do I. But the fact is celebrities bring attention and much-needed funds to conservation efforts. This is more important than ever given how the pandemic has obliterated fundraising and donations for once-solidly funded organizations. I would be suspicious if she were frolicking in some glamorous locale, but you’re not living it up in a Congolese rainforest.

How about giving her the benefit of the doubt and be a decent human by not judging her and mocking her appearance as she deals with a severe injury. Try that on for size.

Ashley Judd has been traveling regularly to Congo over the years to study the endangered bonobo population with her life partner. Judd was in the Congo as part of a research project for endangered bonobos.

Because it's the middle of effing Congo?

You think the folks carrying her out of the jungle in a makeshift sling in gajillion degree weather, who probably have malaria on the regular, don't regularly have potable water, etc. give a crap about wearing masks?

Also, Africa has been less affected by COVID in general, which is a blessing for them.

Ashley Judd suffers from chronic migraine disease and IBS, for which she takes prednisone which blows up your face and body, and Botox (for the migraines) which combined with the puffiness of prednisone bloat can make you look very weird. She hasn’t had fillers or plastic surgery.

She’s 100x more beautiful than you will ever be, because she has a generous loving nature whilst you are a shallow, judgmental looks-obsessed narcissist.

Your friend's opinion of Ashley Judd is not really a "back story".

Is it just one person here who is highly, disproportionately defensive of any criticism against Ashley Judd? What gives? She is a nutter, as evidenced by her horrifically embarrassing display at the Women’s March in 2017.

I’m with the other PPs who noted that the middle of a pandemic is no time to be traveling to see apes. This trip could have waited. If this was just an average person, you’d be slamming her for unnecessary travel mid-pandemic. So take a seat and be quiet.

It’s the Congo not Chicago.

Hope she fully recovers.

Wow. Ashley’s PR team is quite literally working overtime!
