W&M is probably not a safety for anyone. It might be a good target for OP

Every school has serious students and party students. Your child will find their people wherever they go.

This is OP. Thanks for the ideas. Her dream school is University of Chicago but we couldn’t afford that even if she got in. What keeps bothering us is the conflict between her really liking a SLAC but it not bring worth it to pay so much for a non-top tier school.

Anywhere that's primarily a commuter school.

This is comical, W&M has an almost 40% acceptance rate so basically almost half of applicants get in

Yes, its a great college but to say its not a safety for anyone is like saying VT is not a safety for anyone, both are great but for those that have been accepted to ivies both are not only considered safeties (if even considered) but also comparable

Some of these safety suggestions are very off base.

But the non top SLACs give a lot of merit. What about College of Wooster or some place like that?

i would look at liberal arts colleges below top 20--won't be party schools and good peers.

Consider lower tier schools that award merit aid. Oberlin, Denison, Kenyon.

Are you thinking about the expense in terms of the brand, or in terms of her experience?
