1-2 years is 11 to 14 hours so not 12 hours consolidated sleep. If your kid is getting 9.5 hours at night total and 1.5 nap then they meet this average distribution. A good friend of mine has a very bright low sleep needs kid. She dropped to 0 naps at 2/2.5 and sleep 7/730-5/530. She's never slept past 630. At 3 she is on the low end but still within normal range.

A hippy suggestion is 1oz of tart cherry juice in AM and PM. Tart cherry juice is high in exogenous melatonin and for adults with insomnia led to 60-90 more minutes of sleep.

I'd also say that the more you pull away the more separation anxiety will increase. Meet them where their needs are. All kids are not the same and some really do need a lot more attention/physical contact.

Just for S&G have you ever let him bedshare after he wakes to see if it helps?

The National Sleep Foundation is a mattress industry lobbying group. Besides that, where in the information you provided does it say 15 month olds DON'T need consolidated night sleep?

I will stick with the experts in their field, Weissbluth and Ferber, as well as countless others who have made their careers in pediatric sleep science. Not doctors with no research backgrounds who get paid a nice fee to lend their name to a junk fake "foundation" that has ENDORSED THE "MY PILLOW" AS ITS OFFICIAL PILLOW, whatever that means.

OKAY is the CDC good enough for you. Its the same amount as the NSF https://www.cdc.gov/sleep/about_sleep/how_much_sleep.html

You can talk about 15 hours all you want but that isnt the average sleep needs for a 1-2 year old. Expectations are such an important part of sleep with children and making a kid cry in their crib because you INSIST 12 hours overnight is required for every single kid is ridiculous.

I’m a crib fanatic and my kids were extremely active kids. It wasn’t safe for them to wander the house before 3.5 so we kept them in cribs. Crib tents if needed.

I'm the PP with the young toddler in a crib. I don't understand this...just baby proof the room and shut the door. Do you think my kid is wandering around the house?

My child can open doors. Yes we're baby proofed, but I'm sure if he scoured the house he could find things to get into. He moves chairs to get into upper cabinets, can turn on the stove, can open the front door... his brain just hasn't matured enough to allow free rein of my house. Also, he climbed the built in bookshelves of his closet like a monkey and then got stuck and couldn't get down. Crib tents are very safe (for the 12+ month olds) and he enjoys his crib tent.

Take him outside for a walk in the neighborhood, or at a local park. No stroller. Have him point out trees, rocks, etc. Walk, walk, walk. Real exercise does wonders. It is not just about being awake. Get the kid moving! It's good for you, too.

Crib tents are not safe. If my kid could open a door I would LOCK IT. My god.

NP, just had to chime in to support the PP above. My 20 month old sleeps 10 to 10.5 hours at night (often wakes up once to say hi, sometimes needs water, and sometimes even *GASP* milk), and then haps for 1.5-2h during the day, but sometimes entirely skips the daytime nap, and sometimes it's only 45 minutes. She's happy, we're happy.

Is the kid in a good mood and developing appropriately? Then probably everything is fine. I love to sleep and commiserate with OP, but if the kid is healthy and happy, just roll with it. And count your lucky, lucky, lucky stars that you have a healthy kid...
