When/how did you decide on permanent birth control?

I am done with 2 kids at 35, and both were done thru c section. I had chance to tie my tube with my last pregnancy since it was a scheduled c section, but I hear that there’s chances of complication if not done right. And, cut open my stomach again for tube tying complication is a no-no to me.

My second pregnancy was so hard on me, with bad constipation, legs swollen, belly feeling so down etc. We decided we are done with 2 kids because of our age, pregnancy complication, money, and also we have a boy-girl complication.

I would do an IUD at six weeks and make a real decision when baby is a year.

In your case especially, OP, but for everyone: it doesn’t matter what you thought before you had kids. That woman was not working with recent, personal experience. It seems like your body is telling you it is done.

Op here. Thanks for saying that. A perspective I hadn't considered about my POV before actually being a mom.

After my last child, I had ten year IUD put it. It slipped or moved, and I got pregnant when my daughter was 12 months. I was still breastfeeding. That positive pregnancy cemented my desire to not have any more kids. I was devastated at the thought of another baby (already had a four year old). After my OB removed the IUD, I miscarried a few weeks later.

The relief I felt was amazing. So I told my husband we needed a permanent solution. I was willing to have my tubes tied, but instead he made the appointment for a vasectomy.

Best decision we could have made, and we haven't regretted it at all.

Decided after getting pregnant with surprise #2 as it took 2 years to get pregnant with the first kiddo. Dh got snipper shortly after second kids first birthday.

I would do the same- your baby is 8 days old and you are young! If you always wanted 2 kids I would say have your DH get the vasectomy but since you think you might have wanted another and you are so close post-partum I would hesitate to do something permanent now.

I would take your DH up on the vasectomy, since they can be reversed if you REALLY REALLY want another one, but they have low chance of accident or adverse effect, while IUDs have some risk of serious complication.

You don’t seem 100% sure. If I were you I would get an IUD. That way you have a couple of years to think about it.

I had a tubal ligation done during my c-section with my second. I was 30 and wanted no more than two.
