Pomona or Claremont McKenna

Excellent schools. Can't go wrong unless you're a super hippie-where you might be a better fit for Pitzer.

Hardly “by far.” CMC has some great buildings. It’s a southern CA campus, not some simulacrum of some transplanted Northeastern slac. CMC is a conventionally liberal school now. Keep up.

When we were touring Pomona, the nice young person giving the tour kept describing Pomona as "east coast". I had no idea what that was intended to convey, I guess since I don't know enough about the west coast to appreciate the difference.

No idea, but maybe it has to do with the campus architecture. Kind of fake east coast campus in sea of socal-themed consortium schools.

Not sure how Pomona is a “fake east coast campus” when it was founded in 1887.

Who is this insane poster, really? There is a person who keeps posting rankings of things like "most faculty and alum influence", and "most winners of X prize." I and every other parent I know can't imagine giving a sh!t about inane things like this.

"Faculty and alum influence" for God's sake. What an absolutely stupid thing to compile a list of. I can't imagine trying to direct my kids to a school based on something that utterly idiotic.

I don't know. She posts a weird ranking system almost every week. Usually, it's the world ranking which no one pays attention to. This time she's really gone too far.

I think those ranking have value, but only if a kid wants a career in academia. Otherwise, it doesn't matter

Contiguous and yet well-defined. I thought Pomona’s campus was stunning, and the most attractive of the 5C’s (followed by Scripps).

. Pomona has a nice campus. No one objective would rank it above Scripps.

I guess we’ll just have to agree to me being right and you being wrong.

Copied the style. Not sure what you’re struggling with here.

I went to Scripps. Scripps has a gorgeous campus. Pomona is equally as gorgeous. CMC, HMC and Pitzer have nothing on those two campuses.

Scripps is the most beautiful of those colleges

+2 I agree. My DD goes to a single sex high school, so there is no way she will even apply here.

Back to OP's question ...

DP here. I posted a month or so ago asking a related question about the Claremonts and got several answers that few students cross apply to Pomona and Claremont-McKenna (Pomona and Pitzer, yes). I got the vibe that the reason is that Claremont McKenna has a very politically conservative student body, but I haven't read that anywhere but DCUM. Posters also stated that Claremont-McKenna is very strong in political science and economics, but I can't understand why that would mean you wouldn't cross apply with Pomona?
