What is the allure of the Kardashians?

Here's the thing: I hear grown women talking like that, and I automatically think "DAMN this woman has too much time on her hands, to be watching this sh&t!" That, and I don't know any (any) educated women who watch that show.

So, if I hear you trying to talk, or see you trying to act like they do on that show - I will automatically think much, much, much, much, much less of you. Period.

Since you asked.

I know that's the opposite of the media gloss on them but look: they're moms, close to their own mom and sister, talk about maintaining relationships/marriages, raising kids, working. The middle America appeal makes perfect sense to me.

Not sure I would use the word wholesome and attribute it to the Kardashians. Kim is about to divorce her 3rd husband. None of the others have married. 3 out of the 4 that have kids(Kourtney, rob and kylie) are not together with their baby daddy/momma. Khloe is getting back together with the baby daddy that cheated on her twice, once when she was pregnant.

They are able to handle being a single parent because they have the financial resources. That is not the case for many singe mom's. Is this really the role models you want?

I think they reflect middle America better than most of DCUM understands, including prioritizing having a family/familial relationships.

I'll take a bite.

I am a middle eastern woman with dark hair and features similar to the Kardashian ladies. I too have 4 sisters and we are a close-knit family.

When the show started it was a fun insight into a silly and goofy Hollywood family with many beautiful daughters. It was also cool to see Kim trying to make it in Hollywood and watch her rise as an eventual A-lister. It was a fun brainless show I would have on in the background.

I am an educated woman and I love the Kardashians!

That show has been on the air for this long because they are charismatic. Who cares about Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie anymore? Nobody really. The Kardashians really are special and somehow magnetic.

I know the family is having a lot of problems now, but I was always impressed by how the sisters and mom were so dedicated to each other. (I know, I know, it's probably because they have to be dedicated so they can get the paycheck...) As someone from a troubled family, I was always impressed at how they put their relationships (the sisters and the mom) with each other above everything and really put the work in to spend time together.

People like feeling like they are in the lives of celebrities and the kardashians have provided a pretty genuine look into their lives.

Generally even outside of the celebrity apparatus people like feeling like they have a peek into someone else's dysfunction. The K's provide that, for better or worse.

I don't really know what the current allure is, TBH and I don't hate on them or anything. I think if you started watching them way back when they started, the allure is that they just became an ubiquitous part of the content that you were consuming and so you "keep up" with them, like what I did there?

But I never watched any of their shows, so I have no idea what would draw someone like me in now. Or anyone? Even if you are a housewives/bravo loving person, I don't think you would necessarily find anything alluring enough to start watching Kardashian stuff now.

I do hear those good american jeans are the bomb though.

It’s amazing how a basic looking girl like Kylie can get her face + body worked on to have instant beauty, then capitalize on that beauty and make almost a billion dollars off her surgery-enhanced face and body.

Innovative.

Exactly. It’s a form of escape for many viewers, but relatable escape.

Never ever got it. My daughters used to love it, but even they have they lost interest. I think they lost a big audience when they literally not only came across as the most tone deaf family in America but that they have all started to morph into one face, its rather frightening.

Except none of them have currently maintained marriages

Same reason soap operas and soapy-type nighttime dramas and shows like MTV Cribs and Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous are popular. People like drama and are fascinated with wealth.

Their seemingly unattainable beauty, their lifestyle along with their drama.

They sure know how to make a ton of money though!
Kylie’s cosmetic and skin line must work wonders on the appearance.
