| We haven’t heard anything either so it’s good to know others are in the same boat - I think. I wish they would get it together. |
It is not as easy as other schools to determine the top 500. How do they integrate in home schooled kids in to the count? Private school? Charters? Do you weigh advanced classes (BASIS students?) It is more than just doing a filter on DCPS data as they need to make sure they are being equitable. Lot's of questions they need to work through. |
Reminder - DCPS in their infinite wisdom removed the Principal earlier this year. They have an acting Principal who is dealing with this + opening the school back up + DCPS just launched a search for the new principal. Lots of stuff happening - if you want the school to "get it together" maybe another school would be a better fit for your family. |
They answered all these questions back in December. An A is an A. Unless there is some different grading scale an A in gym counts the same as an A in Geometry or Algebra II or Math 8. No course (regardless of school) is weighted. If you don't know these answers...you haven't done your homework. |
But some schools do weight their GPA and Walls has to manually unweight them. That takes time, especially since they had 1400 applications. If your kid is from a school with unweighted GPAs you better hope Walls takes the time to adjust any schools that are weighted- otherwise half of the top 500 will have GPAs above 4.0 and your kid will be out of luck. |
Then why aren’t they lining up interviews already? |
| How do you know there were 1400 applicants and is that just for 9th grade? |
| How do we know they had 1400 applicants? |
| How are they weighting an A-? |
I am aware, thanks so much. And I don’t know if it will be a fit for my student. That’s why I am anxious for the interview. Have you already decided? |
Should be a 3.7 |
|
There is DCPS guidance on this:
>92.5 A=4 89.5 - 92 A- = 3.7 86.5 - 89 B+ =3.3 |
| presumably they need to get it together in time to synch up with the lottery and other application high schools. not to mention Catholic and independent schools, who will have their decisions out in 2 and 3 weeks, respectively. Tick, tick. |
They get well over 1,000 applicants a year for 250 spots. I am sure they are not worried. |
Applicants and their families might see this timing problem differently than you apparently do. |
