They are not extending the year. We are contracted for 194 days. If for some reason they ever blew through all their snow days they would make student holidays and teachers workdays school days again. Then at a worst case they would shorten spring break. They would never extend the school year because nobody is learning ANYTHING once we hit June. Kids would literally just not come. Also, they can’t, because it would add days that are outside of contract. |
Good luck shortening spring break. Is the school district going to reimburse my flights and hotel fees? Thought so. |
If you're a parent, then just don't have your kid show up. If you're a teacher, that's the risk you run. |
Back in the 'ye ol' days of FCPS, (ie the 1996 blizzard), they added on 15 min to each school day to make up for all the missed school. Graduation dates, AP exams, etc. were already hard sets and couldn't be moved so to squeeze in the time missed (we were off for a whole week; then another week of 2-hr delays) so it was a lot of time to account for.

It isn’t happening , it’s the worst case scenario, and you shouldn’t be traveling either way. If you’re a teacher and that happens, take a personal day. If you’re a parent, just have your kid skip school. No wonder most of you can’t manage right now, you can’t even figure out basic stuff like this. |
