anyone gain a ton of weight and actually tried to "hold back"?

I gained 54 lbs and I wasn't eating more than I had before - I just had to reduce my exercise level from "person who runs 10-milers and half-marathons" to "person who jogs 2 miles on the treadmill with her giant belly." My weight gain wasn't extreme at the beginning, but somewhere around month 7 I started gaining really rapidly. In the last weeks, I was gaining 3 lbs a week with absolutely no idea how or why because by my calculations, I was at most eating enough to gain 1.5 lbs/week. Dropped 30 pounds within a few days of having the baby - all water. I think sometimes there's just not much you can do. If you're used to eating a lot and exercising a lot, it feels unnatural and counterintuitive to eat a lot less when you're pregnant.

(If you need encouragement, by 3 months post-partum I was back in my jeans and by 5 months post-partum I was 4 lbs above my pre-baby weight. My friends talk about how quickly I bounced back. Just stay active after the baby - you'll feel better and lose faster.)

Have you gotten a full work up to rule out thyroid, insulin resistance or PCOS? There may be a medical reason for the gain beyond the pregnancy. Pregnancy can do really weird things to our hormones.

you were pregnant this is completely normal. I am a marathoner/extreme athlete and I gain 50lbs with each child no matter what I do...and the majority is in the first half of the pregnancy. If you have low body fat to begin with it happens. My dr says his tiniest patients always gain the most weight. With each of the kids the first 35lbs literall falls off by 6 weeks postpartum---and then I work hard for the last 15lbs..which takes until at least 4-5 months postpartum to get off.

this post is for ppl that gained that amount without being pregnant.
