Taking Bets: Does DCPS go through with it?? Please no other posts

It will happen- but not on the scale they are promising. It will definitely depend on the individual schools.

It is voluntary. Even though the numbers are bad, experience still shows that community spread in schools is rare, and the teachers will have started to get vaccinated. The main factor.is dc council and teachers unions.

I personally know teachers who are being forced back. It’s nice that there are volunteers at your school but that is hardly a universal experience.

Think it will be safest once the teachers get vaccinations. When can that be done for teachers returning to the classrooms and having both injections that are 21 to 28 days apart? Also hospitalization rates for children are continuing to increase. So timing may not be right. They are very confident in the measures they have put in place in DCPS schools per Mayor Bowser recent presentation. However, it depends on how they are put in place at the schools. Is there enough expertise in how to do planned steps without variation where problems may occur, if they are that good. Also, keep in mind wearing masks, keeping 6 feet or more distance, washing hands will still be necessary.

yes they do. we also are in a modernized school. i’m doing everything I can to feel safe and go back for these kids. what I need to know and i’m not a scientist so don’t flame me, we have the Merve14 filter, will opening the windows help more or not. I’m still learning and
hvac is not my forte.

This is the most unplanned, not thought out idea I’ve seen in years and they says a lot when comparing it to other DCPS horrible ideas.

Schools are reopening with 3, 6, maybe 10 students in classes and no real direction for some just stress manipulation and evaluations.

I doubt my school will open. There are 18 paras at my school and about 3 are in person. The rest are virtual. There are three self contained classrooms in my school that need two aides per class. The ECE classes will need an aide each along with the kindergarten classes. It just doesn’t add up.

Our school seems pretty organized and ready to implement its plan. I won’t believe it until my kid walks in the building, though.

I'd bet unlikely, especially given our current case counts.

I'm going back too, she likely means the shoe coverings. As a self contained teacher, I will be wearing all the things. Sure hope no kids spit on me this year...

I am also a staff member working in the building. Our school is completely prepared, teachers and staff have put in thousands of hours of work and are ready to move forward. Parents are ready and seem prepared to accept class reassignments. If DCPS backs out it and/or another action stops opening it will be a devastating blow to our school community.

Curious if your school is a title 1 or a highly resourced school, or somewhere in between?
