Sign-up to support Chancellor Rhee at an upcoming DC Council Hearing

To get on the witness list, call or email Aretha Latta at 202-724-8196, or email her at alatta@dccouncil. us .

You can get on the witness list to also testify against Rhee. Rhee is giving talking points to her supporters and is mobilizing them. So, if you have something concrete to say, by all means don't let her supporters be the only ones speaking.

I would suggest you'd don't begin to understand the posters on this thread. If you had a child with special needs and tried to go through DCPS to get the "Free and Appropriate Public Education" to which your child is entitled - BY LAW - you might be a little more attuned to the agonies of certain parents in DC. Nasty and self-satisfied doesn't begin to describe us.

Try the "Michelle Rhee" thread, http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/93230.page

It may not completely describe a lot of posters here, but it certainly is a good start.

Sometimes I think it's a strategy on her part. Say crazy things, be on the edge all the time of rational speech and then things that otherwise would be controversial won't be. Like when you are accusing a bunch of teachers of having sex with kids and hitting them, then when you do something like change the curriculum or choose some catalyst schools hardly anyone blinks an eye.

Just frustrated that debates seem more focused on Rhee herself than long-haul reform issues like budget, IMPACT, contract, oversight, etc. (I'm done with the union, too btw.) The appeal says support the chancellor first. That's what I meant about "not so much". If it just said show support for what's actually happening, then I'd be all for it.

I'm a frustrated supporter. I do trust her intent to help DC children and applaud her passion. I don't believe she's hired "cronies" as principals. The racist label is of course ridiculous. (I'm AA) The "only cares about ward 3" theories are totally unfounded. (And lest we forget, when she first started, people complained she was ignoring wards 1, 2 and 3. lol ) When I've spoken with her and seen her out of the limelight, I think "she's great! These things make sense."

Then she goes and runs her mouth "out of context" and the soap opera heats up all over again. Yes, it's not all her fault. But this happens so much that it really calls into question her judgement.

The time for a polarizing lightning rod to finally close the bad schools is over. People should not be motivated to support her just because other people badmouth her.

It's not really about her. Is it?

Well, she certainly believes it is all about her
