Dr. Robert Footer or Reiter, Hill, Johnson?

I switched from RHJ to Dr. Footer for my 2nd pregancy because I felt like I was a number at RHJ and had difficulty with their front-office staff. I like Dr. Footer quite a bit and think he is good about answering questions. However, I agree that his office is quite low-tech and old fashioned. Last appointment I peed into a styrophome cup like you would find at a picnic instead of a specimen cup. His equipment is pretty old. Luckily, he sends you to specialists to do the 20-week ultrasound and/or an amnio if you want that. Also, for my last appointment I waited over a hour before having my 7 minute appointment to check the heartrate and ask if I was doing ok. I asked the nurse why they were so behind and she said it just happens because some patients take more time than they expect.

I used to see Dr. Sarafian and switched to Dr. Footer b/c I felt like a number at Foxhall and wanted more personalised care, and I also did not like not knowing in advance who would deliver my baby. With Dr. Footer, you know that either him or Desouza will deliver your baby and they are both WONDERFUL. During my pregnancy with Dr. Footer I always got the first appoitment in the morning so I never had to wait and he never had to cancel any appoitments. He is a very very very nice caring person, he makes you feel like you are his only patient and he truly cares about your baby. What I like the most about him is that he answers phone calls directly during the day so if you have a question or a concern you can directly talk to him. Wonderful. At one point in my pregnancy I was bleeding and freaked out, I called his office, the person from the front desk directly transferred my call to him so I spoke to him immediatly and I told him what was going on. He said come to my office, I will see you right away. Went to his office and he saw me circa 5 minutes after I arrived at his office. Amazing. I doubt a big practice like RH would do that for you.

I am only 3.5 mo into my pregnancy, but have to say that I really like the Chevy Chase RHJ office and have been really pleased with Sharon Frisch, the nurse midwife i have been seeing there. Unfortunately she will not be delivering the baby.
