Postal dog

This is what my roomate thinks .

Not everyone has to like your dog. Mail carrier has probably been attacked before, so give them a break and securely keep the dog away from them.

I agree with PPs that many people don't know about dog seat belts (good for you for using one--I wish more people would!). Also many owners--not necessarily you, but many-- don't control their dogs that well and think that it's OK if a big friendly dog comes bounding up. Your carrier has probably encountered many of this type and/or could have been bitten.

I would imagine that the carrier didn't know what dog seat belts are (I've never heard of them) and couldn't see into the car well anyway. Just close the damn door. Mail carriers have to deal with a lot of dangerous dogs and irresponsible owners, so I really don't blame them for assuming the worst. And they can legally refuse to deliver the mail if they feel threatened by your dog, so it doesn't matter what YOU think, it matters what they think.

Dog was buckled into the seat belt buckle within my car.

So what? She probably couldn't see that.. And she might not know what a dog seat belt is. Just close the car door. You admit that your dog is a pit mix, and large. Maybe the dog would just lick her, but she doesn't know that.

Close the car door proactively so the mail carrier can see the dog is contained. Short leash walk your dog as far as you can from the carrier when passing. Now- as for the mace— call the post office and report that it it happens again. If your dog is leashed or behind a closed car door, there is no reason for the carrier to threaten you with mace.

Yes- the dog was also on the leash in the car. She scared me. Because she may be trying to set us up I notified postal. We are in a millionaire dollar fancy house and it looks like we have deep pockets. We rent and the deep pockets have lint.

We told her the dog was restrained. She yelled at me that he was not. But the dog clearly could not get out of the vehicle. Because with all her yelling he did not come out of the car. Yes- He is a big dog. I frankly don't care if she doesn't deliver to us . She is creating a danger by yelling and being antagonistic toward us. We are his pack and her yelling at us makes him protective. And it wasn't clear if she planned to mace him (in the car) or us . We (people) were the ones without a leash. I think the PP is right. Something about her behavior with our dog is way off. The other carriers pay our dog no mind. We don't have money. I am 99% sure my dog will not bite her. As I tell my kid any animal with a mouth can bite or I would say 100%. But, if he did bite I would have him put to sleep.

Do not let your dog lick random people. Wtf is wrong with you? Glad to know the postal worker is ready to defend themselves. They could have a serious allergy and be harmed by your dogs saliva.

How hard would it have been to close the car door for the 15 seconds it takes for her to deliver the mail?!

My kids and I were on our front lawn (masked and 6+ feet away) talking with friends. Our mail carrier asked us to move so he could deliver the mail safely. We moved and waited until he was past, and then went back to our positions.

I think this who scenario of creating a lawsuit doesn’t make sense. I’m guessing you aren’t as in control of your dog as you would like to think and the mail carrier has the right to be cautious. Just comply and you don’t have to worry about any lawsuits. Close the stupid car door for 15 seconds!’ Why is this even a question??

I give zero f@cks about these petrified people. Their dog phobia is not my problem. I have seen this kind of behavior even when we had a spaniel and I just can’t. They are basically snowflakes. Dogs are a normal part of the world.

Where did I say I would like my dog lick a rando? I said that is what he would mostly do SINCE he doesn’t bite any thing but food. Please tell me you knew this and you were just trolling.

The dog was restrained which is required by law. As I mentioned , we were dealing with other people at the time including a child and an elderly person. All four doors were open.
Be honest PP if a mail carrier walked down a street way yelling at you would you really be ok with it? If your dog was secured within your car and you told them and the yelled no - you’d be ok with it?
Now my child is looking for mace on amazon so that if she hurts the dog he can protect them. This little event has turned into a cluster. My child did not even know that mace existed before this event.
Ps the Covid example is a false equivalency

Op here. I previously had a chihuahua. I can remember people (only 1 or 2 ) that appeared genuinely scared of him. I had a roommate in college scared of birds and later learned a good friend was really very fearful of birds- something to do with a chicken attack as a toddler.

You are not special and neither is your dog.

Close the damn door and stop creating drama.

People don’t want to be licked by an animal that constantly licks its genitals. That’s disgusting.
