Yep. They got teams from Richmond to Philadelphia to show up as well. Guess there aren't too many games in town these days. Well done Alexandria. |
| Another parent who was pleased with the tournament. My DD had a good time and the games were competitive, parents stayed far back (well only one parent allowed) and she was happy her team decided to participate. |
Great tournament. Huge difference in top teams and lower teams in my kid's division. I bet one team gave up 35 goals and scored 5. My kid's division played on tennis courts. It was a little tight but no problems. Kids had fun. Saw some friends. Good time. |
| very well run tourney! my dd's team played 3 top clubs in her age group. started off on tennis courts and then moved to turf on Sunday bc of weather. Looking forward to the futsal season starting next weekend! |
| I thought Alexandria did a good job in terms of finding appropriate outdoor venues. My child is on the Blue ID team, and I didn't think we were matched against appropriate opponents - we didn't just lose every game, we got killed. But, maybe there were fewer teams due to COVID, and I guess this sort of thing can happen even in the best of times. |
I think covid means that teams were showing up from all over to play. The level was very high indeed in the older top boys divisons. |
Just to illustrate. See the U15 results: http://events.gotsport.com/events/results.aspx?EventID=80197&Gender=Boys&Age=15 In one division Bethesda didn't win a game. The winner of that division (which was a team composed of Arlington and DCU kids) got hammered by the winner of the other division which had been composed of teams - from Richmond, Philadelphia Union and Arlington (this was the team which won the final) - Baltimore - Arlington and DCU (different kids from the group which won the other division) - Alexandria |

Agree thought the flexibility of venues was good. Clearly they were well prepared. Futsal on wet turf was a different style of play, but my DC enjoyed it.
Agree with other pp, the brackets were a bit odd at times. Some of the professional conduct / knowledge of a few of the refs, was a bit odd by any standards. I'm guessing it was harder to get refs for this. Have been at several Alexandria tournaments and that was the part that seemed very off. |
I must admit it has crossed my mind that refereeing standards in general have been off this year. But my sample size is relatively small - so it may be no more than that. |
Ref was way off in semi final and final. The first 2 games, we thought they were fair and all. One didn't even wear mask 80% of the game while the majority of the kids playing had mask on. Overall it was a great tournament but good competition, would say even better competition than last year. |
Maybe so. I'm not trying to slam Alexandria, but I do think they should have done more to find appropriate matches for Blue ID. |

Wait let me get this straight. You want the club to do a better job finding teams that are lower caliber. This is a first I have ever heard of such a complaint. Any tournament/club is doing what they can to fill slots with high caliber competition and then they distribute those teams across the brackets. Your complaint is they didnt have enough easy teams?
Now we need a dedicated bracket per age group for weak teams only? Are you serious? |
How dare anyone find fault with Alexandria... people just need to shut up and give them their money. |
If you dont like it. Take your checkbook to Loudon and write them the check. |
You need to improve your reading comprehension. As in any soccer or futsal games, it is fun for the kids when they are playing an opponent that is relatively comparable. This is why, generally, they do not match the blue travel soccer team against the red one. The team plays the white team, which is slightly better than them, and the black team, which is slightly worse. |
