Shampoo for super thin/fine hair that gets greasy very quickly

Anonymous
I have fine/thin hair and it doesn't matter what type of shampoo I use, I have to wash it every day. There is no getting around it. I just use whatever smells good.

Son had thick hair, but it gets greasy immediately because...well, he is a teen. Only thing that works (and we've tried tea tree, neutrogenia, head and shoulders oil control) is Nizoral.

Dd went through a phase of this starting around 9-10, then it went away. Now two days is fine. I think it was puberty related and took a few years to level out. She showered everyday for two years and tried different products, just be careful you don't create dryness as that will lead to even more oil. Her head smelled during that time too.

Is she doing a good job of rinsing it?

OP, I have always had fine and very greasy hair AND mild sensory issues (I have ADHD and a lot in common w/autistic people) that make me want to avoid hair washing and drying. Add to that! I actually care a lot about how I look and tend to dress and do my makeup to the nines, so there's literally always been a ton of stress for me around the whole situation.

Exactly one (1) product has ever allowed me to go up to 3 days without shampooing, and it is the Lush Jumping Juniper shampoo bar. I discovered it only maybe 5 years ago, but would have killed for it as a teen, especially. I tolerate hair washing fine now, though it's definitely not my favorite activity... but as a teen I pushed it off to maybe 2x/week and without the Lush bar, my hair often looked awful.

It's spendy but does last a long time. If I ever find a cheaper substitute, I'll go for that, but even then I'd probably only save $10-20 a year, so I'm fine with it. Literally the only product that adds life to my hair... without it, my hair looks nice for 24 hours, then okay the next 24, and after that, a grease pit. With the bar, I get two full days of nice hair and a third where it looks presentable. I'm so glad I don't have to wash my hair every day, and I would have never gone for that as a kid.

I have thick hair, but it gets greasy if I don’t wash it every day, and it also seems to get used to whatever products I’m using. I like the suggestion of dry shampoo. I’ve used that on my teen who has similar hair issues that I have. Also, a weird trick that works for me is using conditioner first and then shampoo last. I switch between Renpure and hask products for wet shampoo and conditioner and not your mothers for dry shampoo.
