District taxpayers continue to pay out the a55 in police settlements because MPD is completely and totally out of control. Beating the snot out of innocent people in broad daylight. Happens all the time.

The brutalization of innocent people is heartbreaking but because they happen almost exclusively to non white people, it gets swept under the rug.

Thank you Councilmember Allen for performing oversight of MPD and standing up for DC residents and taxpayers.

No they are not. The DC council and criminals are out of control.

Exactly. Still waiting for the Post to report on the spike of crime in DC we "hear little about"...

I hear it all the time. Have no idea what you are talking about. The post stopped paying attention to ANYTHING happening in DC a long time ago. If you are waiting for them to say anything about crime or any other DC issue, you’ll be waiting a long time.

They don't have enough money to be worth suing.

But there are other ways to deal with true accountability and oversight. Historically, unions have blocked that, though....

What is "true accountability and oversight"? It sounds like there is a process, and the process was followed. With body cameras, I am guessing the MPD will actually find it worthwhile it fight some of these claims as it will be less he said/she said.

The cameras have to be turned on in order to work. But yes your last sentence is correct in terms of he said/she said.

Coming from a place of white privilege. Who do you think is victimized by most crime? People of color, those with mental health issues, and lower income people in general. We need police. We just need well-trained, accountable police. And that actually requires investing in them, not defunding them.

Police can start by paying out their own abuse settlements instead of having taxpayers foot the bill. That's why this BS never changes.

How much should the officer in Ferguson pay the brown family out of his pocket?

They are victimized primarily by police.
