WV elementary in the mid 60s
Blast off, we're headed for outerspace. Off we go at a zipping pace. The rocket is ready, So all hands be steady. We're off to visit the moon. Spaceship, spaceship Passing the stars in the sky. Streaming upward See the bright comets fly by. Blast off, we're headed... |
This is what came to my mind too. |
Blast off we’re heading to outer space
Off we go to the blasting base The rockets are ready So let’s be steady We’re off to visit the moon. Spaceship, spaceship flying so high in the sky Streaming upwards Watch the bright comets fly by Blast off we’re heading to outer space Off we go to the blasting base The tickets are ready so let’s be steady We’re off to visit the moon! |
MN elementary school in the 1960s
Blast off! We’re heading for outer space. Off we go at a zipping pace. Our rockets are ready, so all hands be steady. We’re off to visit the moon. Space ship, space ship, passing the stars in the sky. Speeding upward. See the bright comets fly by. Repeat the blast off portion. |
I remember this from elementary school, but a little differently.
Blast off we're headed to outer space, Off we go at a ripping pace. Our rocket is ready So all hands be steady We're off to visit the moon. Sailing, sailing, see the bright stars in the sky ? ? Upward watch the bright planets go by! (Repeat the chorus) |
I learned this song when I was in 3rd grade in 1961 but I don't remember the title.

NJ elementary school, middle 1960s:
Blast off, we're headed for outer space Off we go at a zipping pace Our rockets are ready So all hands be steady We're off to visit the moon. Spaceship, spaceship, passing the stars in the sky Streaming upward, see the bright comets fly by, Blast off... We loved the lively tune, but I remember one boy pointing out that if you were "just" going to the moon, you weren't likely to see any comets flying by. |
Does anyone remember the local indie band Blast Off Country Style and they'd always play this song at their shows? |
Wasn't this the astronaut jones theme song on SNL |
