Interestingly, I couldn’t give either. My brother is older, a vegetarian and revived alcoholic.

The point is to know your employees.

This question comes up frequently regarding nannies but I’ve never seen it asked of assistants, clerks, nurses in the office, etc. on other appropriate forums. It’s usually only asked for nannies and in laws.

I just started always getting Tiffany sterling silver gifts. I know they’re overpriced and you’re just paying for the box, but it seems like people really feel special/valued when I give Tiffany stuff. This after several gifts at the same price point that were politely but not particularly enthusiastically accepted.

Former nanny: one couple I worked for gave me a good bottle of wine, a cheese, and their Christmas card with my bonus tucked inside.

But they knew I was a wine/cheese person. Just like I knew what books their son liked so I always dropped off a wrapped up book and said Santa accidentally left it by me
