Starting my colon prep!

Oh, I think the Suprep is actually quite good. At least it's only 2L--kind of a happy medium between the magnesium citrate (which I could not get down at all) and the GoLytely, which is more than a gallon of stuff to drink.

I didn't find the taste horrible either. If I had to bet, it was the magnesium citrate first that really screwed you, PP.

I didn't.

Prep was awful, partly because I screwed up on the time component and had to double up my intake of that awful stuff.

BUT, after that nice nap you can have your ride take you out to eat.

Suprep was, by far, the worst part of the prep for me. My doctor had me drink a bottle of magnesium citrate (I think that's what it's called?) before Suprep because he was worried I wouldn't be cleaned out enough due to my history of constipation. The magnesium drink made me queasy on an empty stomach, and then I had to start on the Suprep. I worked SO hard to choke it down and ended up throwing it all up 10 min later. My body literally rejected it. I called the nurse line all stressed out that I was going to have to reschedule after going through the 2 days of clear liquids only. Thankfully I still had time to switch to the Miralax/Gatorade prep which was a lot more liquid to get down but SO much easier for me because it didn't taste awful. Now I now for next time!

I really can't believe anyone can drink Suprep. I am not at all prone to vomiting (threw up one time over 2 pregnancies, never get stomach bugs, etc.) but that stuff did me in. It is appalling to me that a company can make something that people are supposed to ingest that tastes so bad. It was like a combo of the worst cheap vodka, the 3 hour glucose drink, and Nyquil with a briny taste thrown in for fun. Never again.

YOu know what they say--if 2020 was a drink it would be colonoscopy prep

Did PPs have to get a covid test first?

DH scheduled at 3pm Friday. Is the prep 24 hours max? If so, can he eat light meals and clear liquids until 3pm this afternoon?

You need to read the instructions from your doc (I’ve always been all clear liquids the day prior and other food restrictions the week prior).

Nope. I was a little out of it waking up, but there was no pain.

I’ve had many colonoscopies (thanks colon cancer) and never been sore there due to colonoscopies.

OP here - the Suprep wasn't too bad, but the three hours afterwards were rough. I am about to take the am Suprep and do it all over again.

I have to arrive early for a covid test before the procedure.

My procedure is at 2 pm and I was told to have only clear liquids the day before. The prep kit said a light breakfast the day before was okay, but frankly, less is better.

Good description. To me, it taste like a very bitter cough syrup. I don’t find it pleasant, of course, but I think the quantity you have to ingest is the issue more than the taste. If it was only a cup or so, it wouldn’t be so bad.

IMHO

Would anybody consider doing this things called hygiaprep?

https://hygieacare.com/hygieacare-prep

It's basically a colonic you do an hour before the colonoscopy. I learned about it because my husband needs a colonoscopy but is unable to do the prep. I think they charge $250-$300 for the procedure so not convered by insurance. But honestly it sounds much more agreeable than doing the prep.

Yes to covid test. Used Inova drive through appointments 4 days before procedure.

Were you able to get any sleep?

I just had mine done and the doctor had me do EZ2Go (LOLOL) prep. Heard horror stories about suprep tasting awful so this didn't seem too bad, but parts of it seemed like overkill. It was two pill-based laxatives, half a bottle of miralax at 5pm. Then later in the evening 10 oz of magnesium citrate (the absolute worst part, tasted awful) with more laxative tablets. Then had to wake at 5am to drink the rest of the Miralax (I think this felt pretty unnecessary).

No COVID testing prior as it was an in office procedure for my doctor and they didn't require testing. Patients were incredibly spaced out though--never was close to another one. Literally no one in the waiting room at the beginning either. Doctors/nurses/staff in N95s and face shields. I felt safe. No associated pain. Awesome nap as others have said.

Best part was the GIGANTIC meal I ate afterwards.

I hope you know these people are kidding.

It is NOT painful at all.

the prep is inconvenient. That is all.

You are definitely doing the right thing.
