‘Slow Streets’ is stupid

Hi! I live by a crazy intersection (7 stop signs) near the Maryland border and after infinity complaints we had a cop come sit there and ticket everyone who blew through the stop signs. I wanted to order him a freaking pizza, we just sat at the window and cheered. It helped for a week or so but I'm hoping they will consider putting in a light or traffic camera after making forty billion dollars off that one 8 hour shift.

They made one of the streets of that intersection into a slow street after that, which doesn't completely solve the stop sign issue but has helped some Marylanders plan an alternate route, which helps with the insanely reckless driving.

Cops! Doing something! Hooray!

Did you know DC has the largest police force, on a per capita basis, in the country? (And that’s not even including all the federal police forces)

This. We’ve put a bag of river cobbles (rocks about the size of a roma tomato) outside in our front yard where have our distancing chairs for visitors. When people with Maryland tags come flying down our street taking a shortcut to River Road, we throw them at them. We’re probably 4-for-20 in hitting cars. Usually they’re going so fast we can’t even throw a rock fast enough to hit them. But we’ve landed a few!

You sound like a moron. Don’t be surprised if one of those Marylanders stops, gets out of their car and kicks your teeth in.

What about bicyclists? They are the most lawless people on the road.

Instead of tennis balls use dog feces.

Not just lawless but also kind of stupid. If you ride a bike on a busy road in DC, there is a decent chance you’re going to die. It is extremely dangerous.

I seriously doubt some 50-something blond SAHM is going to come in my yard and throw down, but if she does, I welcome it. I’ve been doing KM since I was an undergrad.

Throwing rocks at cars is criminal mischief. So a violation of a traffic law and you commit a criminal act? If the person crashes their car or hurts anyone you could be arrested for or sued.

From the ddot website
What if I see people driving on the street even though they don’t live there?
Residents must NOT attempt to enforce the local-traffic-only restrictions by questioning those who drive on a Slow Street. As a reminder, drivers are discouraged from using a SlowStreet, but the Streets are still open for use by drivers accessing a destination within two blocks.
Due to other public safety staffing commitments, these streets are designed to be self-enforcing, meaning that MPD or DPW will not be consistently enforcing them, but you may report issues with the operation of Slow Streets your DDOT Community Engagement Specialist.

How cute. It's not a question of if you'll eventually cause an accident and go to jail, it's a question of when. You're no better than people who throw rocks off highway bridges.

Slow Streets is just a cowards way out. We know how to slow drivers and make streets safer for all users, our elected officials just choose not to pursue it. DC pols are afraid of drivers. Muriel Bowser caters to them.

DC should have a law-law, stating that anyone violating a law in DC shall be punishable as defined by the said law. That'll show them.
