An overpriced condo rental listing in DC lists "SPANISH SPEAKING STAFF" as an Amenity? WTF?

New poster here.

I would assume that. If the staff speaks Spanish AND English (and maybe some also speak Farsi, Korean, Polish, etc.) I would expect the ad to say "multi lingual staff."

The ad is in English. I would not assume that an ad in English would tout staff who did NOT speak English as an amenity. If they speak Spanish but no other foreign languages, I would not expect them to say "multilingual," because they are, at most, bilingual.

Spanish is the absolute second-most common language spoken in the US, it makes sense simply to list Spanish. Chinese, by the way, follows Spanish but it is a distant third place.

Not once did I read this listing as suggesting the staff only spoke Spanish. And I have no idea why the OP is so worked up over it. (Well I do but.)

OP everything about this post is gross. Except for the idea that an apartment in DC with air conditioning, a dishwasher, and laundry on-site is "overpriced" at $1600/month. That part is adorable.

If you're a renter who is shocked by that price you shouldn't act so uppity.

I paid around $400 a month for the exact same setup right after college in a much more vibrant and exciting version of DC.

Thanks for the history lesson.

Yes, thank you. Any person who would read an ad written in English that lists staff who speaks the country's second-most common language as an amenity and jump to an all-caps WTF reaction has some serious hate simmering.

It was a glorious time.

If I ever rent an apartment in Spain, I will consider English-speaking staff to be a huge amenity. People need to stop looking for stuff to offend them.

I am honestly not sure why the entire block around this building hasn’t been cordoned off into a safe space, grievance and diversity counselors have not immediately been choppered in to assist devastated applicants and residents, whose loss of agency, power and self respect has been demolished by this egregious, racist, sexist, cis-caused outrage of the verbiage in that ad. This makes blockbusting, red-lining, and gentrification look like a joke. Can you imagine being patronized or inconvenienced in this way. Shut it down! Shut it down! No justice no peace. Everyone reading this go to Adam Morgan and yell at people eating Ethiopian food in their little Covid safe outdoor bubble tents if they don’t immediately raise their fists in protest against this issue. You are complicit it sit. You are complicit if you do nothing. You are complicit if you do not do exactly that.

Are you implying white people will pay more rent if the building employs Spanish speaking staff?

It also has an oven! All for $1400, which is pretty low for DC right now.

Nobody cares. Go find their real estate board and bother them.

Everybody already knows the DC of 30 years ago was more exciting and vibrant than today.

In my condo building, the staff who speak Spanish are a huge help when interfacing with contractors doing work on site who are primarily Spanish speaking. Totally useful from the perspective of helping them understand where their reserved parking isn/isn't, rules for moving building materials in the building, etc. Not sure what he analogy on the renting side is, though.
