| Don't worry--there are plenty of good curries in DC. Perhaps just not in NW. |
|
I wouldn't recommend Adams Morgan - it is a bit of a hassle living there, and there are safety issues that are not such a problem in NW DC further out.
Kent, Spring Valley and Palisades barely have any shops/restaurants, and no metro, so you would be driving everywhere. And given that you don't really get more for your rental dollar than Cleveland Park, Chevy Chase etc, I wouldn't say it is worth it. Dupont is nice and worth thinking about if you find a nice rental advertised. |

You would never expect it in this location, but this place is great: http://www.fusionrnb.com/ Check out its Yelp reviews. |
Are you kidding me?!?!?! Where do you live? DH is Indian and there are so many good curry places around!!!!! |

Georgetown is great for kids if you either have your own parking spot or you verify that the street parking on your block is easy. With a baby and toddler that is key.
Tons of babies and pre-schoolers in the neighborhood. Several playgrounds set up for that age group. Public library should be re-opening soon and also good for kids. There are lots of classes -- music, sports, etc. catering to that age group in the neighborhood. And of course all the restaurants and stores. In short, very walkable but, if you have decent parking, still easy to get in the car to drive to work or supermarket. Commute from G'town to K St. is easy bus ride, biking or even walking also an option depending on where on K. Commute to Tysons would be reverse -- with you going out to VA over the bridges while everyone else is coming and so should be easy as well. 20 min -- 30 if you hit traffic. G'town is very near to several of the bridges that take you to 66 to Tysons. If you did G'town there is a yahoo group called georgetownmoms your wife could join. They will help her find playgroups, classes, etc. and possibly even a pre-school spot (they open up sometimes last minute). British school is also an easy walk from upper G'town (above P St.). |
You are kidding! There are many excellent Indian restaurants around. Of course I haven't lived in England, but we ate Indian food about 1/3 of the time while in England in 2006 for 2 weeks. It was nothing to write home about. Udupi Palace, Tiffin, Woodlands, Bombay to name 4 close to me. |
| Am I the only one who is finding herself reading the responses with a British accent? LOL |
"nice parts are pretty soulless" Buggers!!! There is soul in Virginia, you just need to look and you will getting a better value than hiking it from G'town. Also, Spring Valley = WWI munitions clean up. Nasty stuff so you need to pick your spots VERY carefully. |
i don't think this is good advice. former NYer here. love love love adams morgan. don't find it a hassle. don't think the safety issues are better or worse than any other urban setting. |
I think that the fact that British curry is so different from traditional Indian food is key. The two are so different that an excellent Indian restaurant here might not satisfy a Brit's homesick palate. |
This is very, very true. The Chinese food is much different here than it is in the UK too. |
Bollocks. Crime in Adams Morgan is much much worse than Georgetown, Cleveland Park, Chevy Chase etc. |
Tiffin in Langley Park, and its vegetarian sister, The Woodlands. |
How about "u" street?
