Is Bethesda boys showcase happening this weekend?

Anonymous
I know there are many teams coming from PA for the Bethesda tournament. PA just mandated that anyone returning to PA from out of state must either have a negative covid test or quarantine for 2 weeks upon their return. I heard that Pittsburgh Riverhounds pulled all of their teams out of the Bethesda (and McLean) tournaments. They are still on the schedule though, so I'm not sure if they will just forfeit or if the tournament director will reschedule games at this point. With that said, I'm not sure what other PA teams will pull out of the tournament at the last minute because of the mandate. The order for PA residents is below.

Looking at the schedule each bracket/division has 4 teams with 1 or 2 of those teams being PA or NJ. IF the PA and NJ teams start pulling out, then I'm almost certain they will cancel this tournament

I’ve done a bunch of admin work to get a team registered for this tournament, and I think it should be canceled. My sons and their teammates will be disappointed, and then they’ll quickly forget about it. We have the single highest daily case count in the metro area since the start of the pandemic, so BSC should not be bringing together players and parents from up and down the east coast. It’s shortsighted, selfish, and bordering on absurd.

What about other local tournaments like 2020 Hunt Country Fall Classic and Columbia? Are they happening?

Columbia was restructured with only Maryland teams.

Gov of VA will be speaking today at 2pm. We will know after his conference whether or not this tournament is going to take place.

Aren’t U14s playing in Alexandria? Double check your schedule.

"Unfortunately I received a letter at 10:30 a.m. this morning that the Montgomery County Health Department has rescinded our approval to hold the tournament this upcoming weekend. The reason, as we could expect, "was due to the dramatic rise in COVID-19 transmission in Montgomery County and the National Capital Region". I spoke directly with the health committee and this decision was not made due to anything that our club failed to follow regarding the protocols that we had instituted.

For the past four months we have worked extremely hard on setting up the protocols and infrastructure to hold a safe and positive weekend. While we are disappointed, the goal all along was to provide a showcase for the older players since most of these larger events had been cancelled in the past nine months, but not at the expense of any players health.

We are looking at options for the spring and summer regarding a showcase for the older boys and will let you know what those plans will be in the foreseeable future. In addition, we will be providing full refunds to the teams, please give us at least four weeks to process and send out.

Please contact me back if you have any questions concerning this matter."

When you don’t manage forest growth, you’ll keep getting bigger fires. This virus basically selects out people that have lived long lives, made bad choices, or, unlucky genes. The next viruses won’t be so kind in barely impacting children. What happens next? Probably empathic decision-making leading to worsened economic conditions and eventually much harsher pandemics. What should happen? Manage the forest size (and maybe don’t do another Green Revolution).

Hunt Country is on and looks like 12 spectator limit per team.
