convince me to take the pregnancy "don't eat's" seriously

I eat them less frequently than I otherwise would and I also have stricter rules for freshness than usual, but I still occasionally indulge. Currently 8 weeks pregnant with #4. Haven't eaten any tuna, sushi, or soft cheese yet. But did eat a few salami sandwiches.

Most soft cheese in this country is made with pasteurized, not raw, milk. It's fine. I skipped the sushi, and pretty much ate everything else on the list from time to time, although less than before. (Not as if I was a huge deli meat or tuna salad eater anyway.)

There was a very bad outbreak of listeria in Spain in 2019 that caused many miscarriages, very sad. linked to a kind of deli meat.

I was fairly careful for my first pregnancy. My second...yeah, I ate whatever.

Please eat it all and ignore all the rules written by trial lawyers and enforced by helicopter parents. There is already enough infantilizing of women today.

I guess I keep coming back to "how good is tuna and deli meat anyway?"

Soft cheeses, sure I get, but you can still eat hard cheese.

Now if chocolate made the list.....

I felt the same as you. Then my kid was born with special needs that were undetectable in utero. Avoid them for your peace of mind because if there is something wrong after birth you will never forgive yourself. I have gone over all the things I drank and ate, all the baby care, all the decisions I made regarding the delivery. It's been years now and I am still thinking about all this stuff. So just don't because then you won't be able to blame yourself.

I only paid attention to things that might give me listeria because that could transfer to the baby. The hardest thing was soft serve ice cream because it could breed in those machines. I never really ate deli meat.

Definitely avoiding things that can cause listeria - deli meats have been implicated in recent outbreaks (unlike during the time of oster‘s pregnancy).

Any thing associated with toxo (Raw meat, etc) is also worth avoiding although can’t avoid my two cats...

More on the fence about sushi since salmonella isn’t really dangerous to the fetus unless you become severely ill and septic (rare). However haven’t eaten any yet despite my severe craving for it!

Well, I'm French and there's no way I wasn't going to eat cheese. I just avoided cheese made with raw milk - which perhaps isn't even sold here in the US, but is sold in France.

Meh most of them are insane. Don't get drunk, don't eat oysters.

Are you in therapy? You shouldn't blame yourself.

My one listeria scare was due to frozen eggo waffles.

You can eat soft cheese if it's pasteurized, and most of it is in the US. Just read the label.

The sushi thing is dumb, just avoid fish with a ton of mercury. Japanese people eat sushi all the time when pregnant. If you like it, it's pretty much the healthiest nice meal going.
