Can somebody explain the Bethesda Beat comment section?

That anyone was voting for “personality” shows how little most of you know or understand about the function of government. None of us who supported the President were doing so because of his personality, trust me.

No kidding. It doesn't matter at all if we know or understand about the function of government (I do and so do most people BTW). Trump was voted in because of the cult of personality and he was voted out also because of his personality. No one by this time is unaware of that.

Trust me, the disastrous economic approach of a liberal administration would be much more devastating than a toxic personality. Thank God for the Republican Senate. Stalemate will be the only thing that saves us.

The Senate’s not officially Republican yet, friend.

But Marc Elrich is still your County Executive. Haha!

So, those rallies and all of those screaming people wearing wearing guns were all “about the function of government”? Okaaaaaaay.

He doesn't know or understand about the function of government either, of course. And yet you supported him.

Well all of us, no matter what our political viewpoints are, need to work on getting along right now.

I don't remember seeing 69 million people at the rallies. Generalizing those few individuals to an entire political party is ill conceived.

...is something that nobody said, in November 2016, to the supporters of the presidential candidate who won a majority of the popular vote but a minority in the Electoral College in the 2016 election.

Apparently you weren't voting for his ethics, either. You were voting for your own self interest at the expense of our democracy. Nice!

That was four years ago. Why not focus on the present?

When your team wins: "You lost, losers! Go ahead and cry!"
When your team loses: "You have to work on getting along with me!"

DP. I agree we all need to work on getting along. I also think most people generally do try to get along in person. My very liberal DH and I were in Trump country for the weekend and we got along with everyone just fine. We didn't go around shouting about how happy we were that Biden won. We did not discuss politics with our hosts (no idea what their views are). It's not hard. Certainly there are very real cases of in-person clashes. But I think all of the animosity really feeds off online forums there are so many people who as Jeff said have made arguing about politics and trolling people their hobby. And people respond to the trolls. I don't know how you stop that.
