Why does everyone care how "smart" a potential student is? TJ is a school for those interested in science and technology.

I was really interested in neurosurgery in college but didn't have the pre reqs. My parents complained and they removed the pre reqs.

Did you go there? Doesn't sound like it. I can't imagine a TJ student saying this. They all know a 3.5 GPA in an FCPS middle school is not enough to do well at TJ in its current state. Instead of worry about smartness, how about capability? That's something not innate right? I little harder to argue that the school is being discriminatory. TJ is supposed to be a school for people both interested and capable of learning at a high level in science and technology. A 3.5 GPA and Algebra II does not measure someone's interest in science and technology nor their capability in learning at a high level in those subjects. That's why the lottery is a joke.

I thought the whole argument before was that kids were applying who weren't really interested. If they aren't showing capability, how interested are they really in science and technology? There isn't even a science and technology class they have to take.
