Because she’s tried to pass it multiple times already and failed. So she went around it it run (with signatures/money) which enables you to be on the ticket, but just delays the vetting process should you win. If she were to win she would still not pass it. She’s tried 14+ times and never made the cut. https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/courts/forum-for-circuit-court-judge-candidates-lively-combative/ |
| I strongly recommend everyone actually research the vetting process before giving a knee jerk vote to Marilyn. I was skeptical at first but after reading I think it's a good system and it's endorsed by a wide range of people across the political spectrum. |
That is 100% false and a lie spread by their opponent. |
The outsider is seriously deranged. Good for you doing some research. |
There is definitely something going on there. The whole public safety system in Montgomery County is eroding. Starting with the police department. And few seem to be paying attention. Try to at least keep the court system in shape, or you will start seeing more of your tax dollars going to the jail. |
What is “good” about it? You really think it’s not based on who you know? |

I voted for Marylin and sort of regretted it then sort of didn’t.
I met her during the 2018 campaign, she seemed nice, intelligent, and shared my views on things. I realize that’s not what qualifies a judge but the way the Sitting Judges campaigned against her led me to bullet vote for her. I believe there might be something to the insiders club theory in the vetting process and that since judges can be elected here, we might as well vote for the one who shares our views rather than the Hogan judges. But reading more about the vetting process made me somewhat regret my vote. It’s not an Old Boys club. There are several diverse organizations involved in the vetting process including Black, Asian, and LGBTQ legal organizations and she did not clear them as necessary. Furthermore, letting an avowed progressive who is possibly unqualified get through has bad implications since the same could happen for a crazy conservative. I don’t want an RWNJ on the courts who didn’t clear the vetting process. But THEN I figure, we don’t need to unilaterally disarm. Should judges be elected? No. But they are. The right the politicized the courts already. That ship has sailed. Why should the left play fair at a time like this? We’ve got more than enough unqualified RWNJs on the courts so one left wing activist on a MoCo court wouldn’t hurt. Marylin it is. |
She’s not a progressive. She’s just running as one. |
This is my biggest problem with her- she basically concedes she went to talk to the Republicans for support and then when they wouldn’t she started trying to be the progressive candidate. |
I’ve been a practicing attorney in Montgomery county for 20 years. This women should NEVER be a judge. She can barely try a case. |

I'm a lawyer in Maryland and I recommend you read more information about the sitting judges. They aren't a "slate" --- they are 4 different judges that were appointed at different times and have been working as Judges. They don't go to the same church and they are not friends banding together except that of course they all work together as judges so of course they are now friendly. The annoying MD process is to be vetted by bar associations (including the black and asian bar associations, the women's bar association and others) and then appointed by the governor. All 4 have gone through the process, been appointed and are working hard right now.
The contender tried to get recommended by the process but was not recommended by the associations. She is trying to circumvent the process set in place by the lawyers and MD and its not the best way to pick a judge. |
