It sounds as if the old woman has dementia, OP. Her husband may not be aware of the full ramifications of her altered state. You will not reason with such people. They will harass you regardless of what you do. What you must do is document all instances of harassment. Install more cameras, and call the police when they trespass. Write a letter with a description of all recent events to the landlord, so they have a record of your side of the story. I am quite sure the landlord knows the woman is not of sound mind. No one in the right mind uses such swears on the phone in that context. Also, pick up the poo and DO NOT RETALIATE. You want this to be a clear case of harassment if and when the police is involved. Behaving badly will just muddy the waters, you understand. And needless to say, move as soon as you can. Dementia-wise, it's going to get worse before it gets better. |
| I would set up cameras that will also record sound. |
|
If your landlord is OK with her behavior, then your landlord is OK with her watering your landlord's flowers.
Get a better place with a landlord who doesn't allow other people to treat their property and their tenants this way. |
|
Probably not dementia. If they and the landlord are buddies, they are probably used to doing whatever. And they probably feel like they are looking out for the property and dislike anyone who lives that who is not the landlord.
Film or use a camera with sound to record, and get out of there ASAP. Don't leave any more dog poop around, and be a good neighbor even though these people are batty. |
Op here. You are spot on. |
|
I would email the landlord every time. Call too — but you definitely need a written record.
“Dear Landlord, This morning I was surprised to find Mrs. X in the back yard of our rental at [address.] Was she there with your permission? It was very disconcerting to find another person in our rented space. The lease for [address] stipulates that we will receive 24 hours notice before you (or your representatives) enter the property. We value our privacy and we ask that you adhere to the terms of the lease. Please clarify as soon as possible if Mrs. X entered the property with your permission or if this was a case of trespassing. Thank you. Tenant name” |

OP, I get that you slack sometimes about picking up the dog poop in a timely matter, but you consider it reasonable to do so. Have you also been slacking sometimes about cutting the grass in a timely manner, or other things that might cause people to think of your place as a bit of an eyesore? Any occasionally-missed chores at all?
Honestly, if they are in contact and friends with the landlord, the landlord can allow them access to keep the place tidy on the outside. There are regulations against entry into the dwelling, but I don't think that applies to the yard. |
| Those are indeed neighbors from hell. However, you are mistaken to call this your property. It is not your property. You are renting it. Yes, you have rights as a renter. BUT, if I owned a property that tenants let poop collect in the yard, I might ask my friends to keep a watch on it. Gross. |
Agree. I have a dog and there is nothing that pisses me off more than when I see neighbors see their dog pooping and don't pick it up, even on their property. I also dislike when they pick it up and put their poop bag in my trash receptacle. The poop issue speaks volumes about you. The neighbors sound crazy but that is, unfortunately, what you endure as a renter and live around other renters when you own a home. Save up money for a down payment to buy your own home and check the neighborhood out first to make sure it is not predominated by renters which drive down the value. |
| You need to pick up the poop. |
| I lived in a townhouse next to people who let their dog into the fenced front yard but didn't pick up the poop all the time. It smelled really bad just to leave by the front door. It's trashy. |
Yes I need to pick up the poop which i do when I get around to it. It is not near their yard. They are choosing to come into our yard to cause issues. It is not their place nor does it deserve having poop thrown by my car. The sweetest revenge will be when we move into our dream home ams they’re stuck in a shitty condo in their 60s. |
| And as I mentioned before I leave the poop for hours maybe a day or so. It’s not like I’m leaving large piles and so be it if i am that doesn’t give someone the right to harass me and throw poop like a child |
| Exactly why I will never rent nor live in a townhouse. Feel sorry for you OP. |
