| I have a BA in English from a SLAC, currently working as a cyber security project manager. Early on in my career I did a lot of program support type work which I guess you could call admin. Careers are mostly a progression...each job built off of the previous. If you like the field you are currently working in, that's great. Look for an entry level analyst/program coordinator in that field. If you don't generally find the field interesting, look for an admin role in a different field using your current admin resume. |
OP here. I have been working as program assistant/coordinator to admin roles in NGOS. I cant seem to move forward even though I have done project work in digital marketing and website design. I can't seem to know what type of job to apply for next. I have 8-9 years experience in these types of roles. |
| Intelligence Analyst. Being able to articulate and write clearly is more valuable in this job than I imagined it would be. |
Assistant Director roles. In things like user experience, digital marketing, marketing, or what have you. |
| ex-wife got her BA and MA in English from Virginia Tech. She has been in proposal writing/technical editing for last 15 years and now a proposal manager for one of the largest defense contractors. |
| I'm the executive director of a scientific society. |
| Lawyer |
| Started out as writer/editor. I’m now a content strategist. |
With 8-9 years, I would recommend investing in a resume writing consultation or take a hard look at what you are sending out. Maybe re-format so you are presenting skills/knowledge rather than jobs/positions held. Do you want to stay in NGO? Or do you want to go into digital marketing/website design? If the latter, apply at companies that do that type of work, rather than NGO work. |
| Two in our family; both became law partners in big firms. |
| I write books! |
| I have a minor in English and B.A. in History. Embraced the admin and am now an exec at a nonprofit. I do a lot of grant proposal and report writing and am very happy with my job. In my case, I started slow with a series of admin jobs and then quite suddenly in my mid-30s my career took off quite suddenly (in my mid-40s now, and lots of opportunities should I ever want to leave my current position). I think that's the case for many liberal arts majors. |
