Her husband was in FLORIDA with the child, and they had been in the process of adoption for months. That’s a child may have had better options in earthquake tour in Haiti does not appear to be some thing that she considered. At all. Why wouldn’t she consider that before getting pregnant then? I just can’t get over how cruel and inhumane that would be for a three year old who they were forming a bond with before the adoption.

Just not a story to share with the world, or even beyond the two of them. Goodness.

That’s not a thing to say out loud. Especially because implicit in it is that they decided to accept God’s gift of two kids at a time, and anyone else who doesn’t is a bad person. Though her story is about adoption rather abortion, it’s a story intended to shame anyone who chooses abortion. Even though she and her master have money and help to spare.

She is a repellent human being.

I understand now why Kennedy asked if she liked warm fuzzy puppies

I’m not sure I’m fully on board with that criticism, but as I was looking for the clip, I came across this article, which talks about how when she was adopting her second child, she found out she was pregnant.

It goes on to say “ Just as her husband was making final arrangements to pick John Peter up at the airport in Florida and complete the adoption, Amy learned that she was pregnant with Juliet. For about three hours, they weren't sure what decision to make. They had wanted five, but now it was looking like five and six were coming together. While taking a walk, Amy realized that her most significant impact on the world was raising her children. They decided to welcome John Peter into their family. A few days later, the three-year-old arrived at their home.”

Mind you, this is immediately after the Haiti earthquake. OK so I have never adopted a child, but I literally cannot imagine the thought process of somebody who goes to Haiti to adopt a three year old child and then finds out that she is pregnant so then has second thoughts about going through with the adoption, literally having just rescued the orphan child from an earthquake destroyed foreign country. What kind of a person does this, and then freely admits to it as a point of pride in an interview? I’m disgusted. Which child wants to grow up reading this? If I were adopted I think I’d probably want to hear from my mom that she never doubted for a second that she wanted me. Not that she had a three hour window of debating whether or not I was worthy of her love.

Enough said. “I have never adopted a child.” This is likely the most hypocritical post ever. Have you ever been to Haiti or helped anyone other than yourself? Probably not. Then you throw race into it when she’s adopted two kids from Haiti. She’s a better human being than you’ll ever hope to be. Now, will she make a good justice? Who the heck knows, but you’re a complete and utter clown.

No matter what Barrett says or does, or said or did, there will be people -- like the pathetic posters on this thread -- who will be out solely to vilify her.

I have never adopted a child but I certainly have a child, and I know that I would never, ever fly to Haiti, form a parental relationship with a three year old over the course of several months, tell them that I was going to be their mommy, make all the preparations to pack up the child, remove them from their current surroundings and country, fly to another country with them, and then once there - reconsider if I wanted them at all bc I was pregnant. I would never do that. How very Christian of her. No PP, she is not a better human being than me. She's just more white and more "religious".

We are vilifying here precisely for what she says and will do. We know what’s going to happen based on her judicial and religious leanings. It’s so clear as day. It’s you who seem to this it’s all roses and people losing their health insurance, or allowing coal companies to dump ash in the rivers is fine, or striking down a longstanding right to an abortion is okay. You have no idea how upset people will be. In fact, my guess is you lean authoritarian anyway, like most trump supporters, and actively want Christian fascism over separation of church and state, and separation of law and church. Her nomination will only hasten young people eschewing religion. So enjoy the short term gains. When she strikes down roe v wade there will be a massive backlash. If only people were less divorced from the political process. I wish they’d pay attention with the same attention they do whatever the latest reality tv show star is doing. This right wing nut will have insane consequences for the court. Then she has the nerve to say she won’t be a judicial activist. She is the definition of a judicial activist.

Does anyone actually know where John Roberts adopted his two kids? It never came out in his confirmation hearings—maybe because they are white and not black, the liberals gave him a pass.

Uh no. Because he probably didn’t drone on about it and highlight it like that was the only thing that mattered about them. You can’t not know that ACB adopted her kids from Haiti. She won’t let you (or them) forget it.

A certain kind of Christian views adopting COC as a charitable act more so even than a familial act. The kids are sometimes (but not always) treated differently than the bio kids. Her press family bio does give short shrift to the adopted kids, who apparently don't even merit a full sentence apiece. Bizarre she wasn't even aware of the inequities in the statement.

It's horrible enough that she thought this - but to publicly share? OMG - those poor kids.

It makes no difference because she will be approved
One hope is that Alito will retire so he can become Of Counsel to a big law firm and make some millions for himself and that Thomas, age 72, will retire and do the same as Alito. Bryer will retire if Biden wins and I hope he finds someone who makes Bernie Sanders look conservative!

You can all say nasty things but none of you have adopted kids of your own.

Whoosh. You are completely out in right field.

No one is criticizing ACB for adopting children. No one. They are criticizing how she discusses them in relation to her biological children and they are impugning her motives for adopting them.

No one brought up John Roberts' adopted children, because little attention has been paid to the children or lack of for MALE nominees. That is nothing more than sexism in action. So much focus by the GOP on ACB's children. Their nomination of a female candidate has actually focused a strong light on exactly how backwards and sexist all those GOP Senators are.

Wake up.
