Who has picked up their life and moved bc of COVID?

I know one family who moved temporarily from New England to midwest to have more space, afford private school, and be closer to extended family.

I know a few families that have relocated from NYC to upstate. Some say they'll move back and others are making it permanent.

And I know a couple without kids who sold their home in a Western city, bought an RV, and lived at a pretty rural RV park for a few months until they bought farmland and are now living on that. They are planning on this being a permanent lifestyle change.

We are. Moving to Hawaii (renting out our house in MD) until end of school year, at least. We also know 2 Korean-American families that temporarily moved to Seoul from NYC.

I think at this point I might have been seriously considering moving to Germany, but our citizenships haven’t come through yet. I know a family that moved to Austria for the duration.

Yes but only to Frederick, MD. Our workplaces haven't made declarations about how long full telework will last.

We (two adults, two kids and a dog) moved from DC to New England. We have houses in both places so it isn’t necessarily a permanent move but I don’t really want to go back to DC.

No permanent moves but we have stayed with my in-laws in Georgia for at least a month here and there to get help with our three kids.

Bethesda to Park City, UT! Not directly because of Covid, but it did work out far better because of Covid (in person learning and beautiful SPACE here !) Many recent CA transplants here in PC, too.

I've been looking at Frederick recently. How do you like it so far?

Our friends moved to a house in WV from the city for more space, but the husband stayed behind and only visits when he's not working. Personally, I wouldn't do that because I really like spending time with my husband and he does at least half the work around the house and with the kids and I wouldn't be willing to take it all on (we both work), but they seem to be happy. They intend to Air BnB the house once they move back to their regular house so it was basically an investment property.

Luckily we left DC right before COVID hit (totally unrelated), so we are happy where we are now, but if we had not moved already, I imagine COVID would have pushed us to do it.

This thread is telling. Many of us want to leave DC.

I also find it interesting that so many can telework. I (nurse) and most of my fiends and acquaintances do not have those types of positions. So you really sit at a computer all day? I can't imagine. I am writing this on my lunch break, and I won't be on a computer til later this evening as I check email before bedtime.

We’ve moved to England for the fall. We quarantined for two weeks, rented a farm house, my kids are in a private school. We have no connection here, just wanted to get out and shake it up.

We left for the year. Moved about 2 hours away so our kids can attend in-person school. Going great so far and the school's precautions seem to be going well. Not a single case reported in school so far.

We'll be back next summer, assuming MCPS reopens for in person school in the Fall.

I considered moving to Germany, but I think they will lock down again at some point and they are much stricter than here. Also, schools aren’t as equipped for online learning. I do have several friends who moved back to Romania and Poland.

A little different situation, but my older sister (we are in our late 20s) started working from home, and issues with her H came up during covid (or just got worse than before, they seemed mostly fine). She decided she didn't like the area enough to stay and moved down here to live with us in CA from OR. She doesn't have kids, so she travels around everywhere, sometimes with a friend, in her outback that she converts for sleeping. Here I am with a preschooler and toddler and Ill admit I would love that freedom.

My friend did this. I’m totally jealous. Dc is a total failure at reopening schools.
