School redistricting (Walter Johnson)

Except Wyngate is massively overcrowded.. I think they'll have to redistrict it also.

Assuming your eighth grader is a senior in 2024-25, and Woodward reopens in Fall 2025, then no, it will not affect him.

If you're currently zoned for WJ, the main effect will be that he'll be going to a really, really, really overcrowded high school.

Nope, Wyngate is slightly below capacity: http://gis.mcpsmd.org/cipmasterpdfs/MP21_Chapter4JohnsonW.pdf

It's amazing how naive people are. I hope no one sees this lie and believes it.

Yup, and a bunch of high schools will be very overcapacity by the 2024-25 year before Woodward opens (according to MCPS's projections anyway):

WJ: +871
Blair: +654
Northwood: +496
Einstein: +459
Wheaton: +97

When will WJ new boundary be decided?

In next 2 years. WJ will look different.

Do people think Whitman will be affected too? Will they redraw those boundaries?

It's my understanding that:

1. Woodward will open in August 2025 for in-cluster residents. Before that it's a holding school for Northwood students whose own school is in renovation.

2. Woodward will not be part of DCC.

3. Woodward students will be drawn in large part from WJ, and other close high schools clusters.

4. BCC and Whitman are part of the boundary study, but I don't think students there will be majorly affected, unless you're in the northern part of each cluster.

5. If you're in the walk zone for any school (no bus), you will keep going to your old school.

6. If you're closer to Woodward or WJ than you are to your old school, you might get moved.

No, I was talking about the high school that will probably be built in south Kensington.

I haven’t heard anything about building a new high school, only reopening Woodward.

Sorry! Yes, it’s Woodward. Would Alta Vista be zoned for Woodward?

"Woodward High School will be reopened September 2025. MCPS Division of Capital Planning will start the process of a boundary study to determine who will go to Woodward High School 18 months prior to the opening of school."

Is it going to be part of the DCC? That doesn't seem fair that WJ will continue on as closed access and Woodward would get opened up assuredly with capacity only to see a flood of kids coming from across the county bringing their problems with them.

Looking forward to my problem kids attending.
