Kicking the pacifier

Anonymous
we read some paci fairy book for about a week and then one day we trashed them and told her the paci fairy took them. it was a rough couple of days, but she got over it. she's 4 now and sometimes she'll say she misses them and doesn't like the paci fairy -- it's pretty funny.

we took my son's away at 3.5 and surprisingly had an easier time. it was one rough night and a semi-rough morning and then it was over. and he never spoke about it again.

Mine was 3.5 when I told her we had to donate it to our new baby neighbor. Put it in a sandwich bag and walked over to their house and had DD hand it over. A couple of rough nights but she never looked back. Now she’s 11 and we laugh about it.
Good luck I know how hard this is!

Ugh. We need to do this too and I’m dreading it. My DD has probably 10 in her crib- she needs to use one and hold 2-3 more at any given time. We might acquire the paci fairy book...

Cold turkey at 3. We only allowed at nap at nighttime and he was obsessed and would always be looking for them during the day. His dentist said it really doesn't become an issue as long as limited to sleep until around 3. He was totally getting paci teeth though. For the week leading up to his birthday we stressed that when boys turn three, they have to say goodbye to their paci. A few days after his birthday we snipped them in front of him and then walked them together to the trash and actually watched the truck take them away so that he understood they weren't hidden anywhere. He asked for them at nap and bedtime for a few days and then it was over.

just to add, his paci teeth straightened out within about 2 months and now his teeth look great. he grew a TON not long after we took them away, so there did seem to be something to the three year old cut off.
