How fast should I be going on 95?

If I went with the flow of traffic, I’d be going 70+, I swear. I wish they’d just up the speed limit and be done with it.

Speed limits on major highways should be higher than they are.

People say that, but highways are engineered for maximum speeds, and cars are engineered for certain speeds. Cars going over faster, on roads not designed for those speeds = more accidents, and deadlier ones.

It's not really accidental if people are purposefully speeding. That's just negligence, and I wish it was treated that way.

OP it’s not about you. If you are actively passing in the left lane going 15 over the limit, someone will tailgate you trying to go 30 over. People just drive aggressively. Don’t worry about it.

+1

There is always someone who just thinks they need to go "faster."

Are you trained in traffic engineering? IF not shut up

I would go 5 miles over the speed limit in the right lane. The faster you drive, the more likely you will get in an accident and the more severe the injuries will be.

Plus of course, the longer it takes you to brake. So tail gating on a highway is insanity.

Cruise control is annoying at a slow speed.

Are you in VA? For some unknown reasons Virginians live to tailgate. It's bizarre. Marylanders will go around you but Virginians will tailgate anyone and everyone they see. it's why they were voted rudest drivers in the country.

Dont let it bother you or take it seriously. Just tilt your rear window so you cant see em and coast away.

I find cruise control is great at a slower speed. On I95 going to Baltimore I set mine at 68 and just sit in the right lane. It's easier to be slower than most cars because you can just sit there and let everyone else maneuver around you. It's four lanes so I don't feel bad.

My brother in law literally has a panic attack with me driving because he needs to be going forward through traffic. He's not alone.

OP don't use cruise control on a busy highway. Fine for emptier roads, but not roads that see a lot of changing traffic.

Because unless a empty road everyone is moving at variable speeds.

My brother years ago for fun often pulls in front and plays lets drive slow game.

The guy driving 55 when everyone is going 70 will flip out if guy in front is going 40. It is same 15 difference. And forcing people to pass you is dangerous I sometimes drive right lane when my SUV is full from dropping kid off at school. But if someone going super slow on left lane I have to go around with an obstructed view. Plus trucks have to stay left and cars speed up to enter highway. Cruise control is dangerous on beltway in traffic at any speed

Cruise control is for open roads, not busy metropolitan highways. If you're using it on 95, regardless of speed, you're a jerk and a bad driver.

Traffic comes and goes, people are switching lanes and there are people trying to merge on/off exits. You need to move with the flow and rhythm, not pretend like you're swimming solo in your own lane.
