| The clothes and purses are the same. I found a purse at TJ and found the same one at Macy’s. Exact same. |

Because the inventory and selection is so random at those stores for makeup and often slightly banged up packaging I am inclined to think they are real and discount lots bought up. I mean that's why you see 3 bottles of philosophy gingerbread body wash in July on a random shelf or something.

The OP is asking about the high end skincare and hair care items; not clothing. I bought a Marc Jacobs lipstick at TJ Maxx a few months ago. I seriously doubt that this color was made specifically for TJ Maxx. More likely, the shade was discontinued and TN Maxx bought the lot. |
Yes, and every TJ Maxxx is completely different. The one near my house is the best one I’ve ever been to, I don’t even bother going to others. |
Spill! |
| I asked my hair stylist about this once and she said one day her colleague went next door to TJ Maxx and bought a shampoo that the salon also had in stock. He poured them both out and the TJ Maxx one was a completely different color and consistency than the official brand shampoo from the salon. So personally I would think twice about buying beauty products and TJ Maxx or Marshalls. |
Of course she said that, she gets a cut when you buy from the salon. I’ve bought a ton of products at TJs that I’m bought at Sephora/Ulta and all the same but 1/3 price Makeup: NARS and Too Faced Hair Products: Pureology, Drybar and Keratese Go ahead and don’t buy, more products for the rest of us. |

Straight from the TJX website:
The majority of product we sell in our stores is brand-name merchandise. To obtain this merchandise, we work closely with our vendors and take advantage of a wide variety of opportunities, which can include department store cancellations, a manufacturer making up too much product, or a closeout deal when a vendor wants to clear merchandise at the end of a season. There are other ways we bring tremendous value to our customers. For example, some merchandise is designed by our own fashion and style experts and manufactured just for us, particularly when what we are seeing in the marketplace is not the right value for our customers, meaning the right combination of brand, fashion, price, and quality. |
Whether this is correct or not, I am not sure that I would trust your hairstylist who is presumably pushing his salon's brand. |
| For makeup, it's older, old packaging, and stuff that didn't sell very well. The markup on makeup is astonishing, so even if they can sell the lot to TJM for a small amount, they've probably made their costs back. In some cases, the makeup may be not great -- sometimes there's a problem with a product and they reformulate it and send it out again (eg, Anastasia Beverly Hills' Subculture palette). It's possible/probable that the older flawed ones also wind up at TJM. |
| some TJ maxx can be factory seconds- but I doubt any company would risk it with cosmetics or shampoo- once chemical burn and their brand name is trash |
You are confusing them with outlet malls. TJ Maxx takes overstock inventory usually from previous seasons, label and packaging changes, and poor selling products. This is their model. They get stuff from department stores and name brand stores. But they also started selling a lot of the amazon dot com china clothing as well. Interesting to note - Target sends their end of season product they can't sell in store to Goodwill. They might do this instead of going to 90% off. I have seen plenty of bulk amounts of Target seasonal stuff in the Goodwills in our area. |
You need to provide some evidence to back up this statement. |
| I have seen larger bottles, liter size bottles of shampoo and conditioner at TJ Maxx. I could only find it online. |
| It's just odd that they only carry one or two items of a particular product. That's probably overstock. I don't always find the same products. Nordstrom Rack had some name brand salon products. |
