They need to reconsider this decision! The federal gov is closed and the Metro isn't running yet. Most kids in MS & HS take public transportation. This is a clear example of poor leadership on the part of Fenty!

The underground metro is running... which covers all of the district

Not closing schools is something worthy of pride. It means the taxpayers' dollars are in fact at work. It means children have the opportunity to learn. It means lots of kids would be endangered walking down the pavement of city streets, as the sidewalks are still largely impassable
that is NOT something to be proud of....I'd be proud if the roads and sidewalks had been cleared, so our kids could SAFELY go to school...

Some children are in safer, better environments at school than they are in their homes. If you have a problem with it, then keep your child home - but don't try to deny something from the disadvantaged children of this city in the name of their own safety. It's incredibly disingenuous.
