She’s likely interested in places like Tilly’s and Zumiez. South Moon Under is great but that’s for the Potomac/Bethesda mainstream teen crowd. Based on your description, your daughter would not like the clothes there. If you want to thrift more upscale try Uptown Cheapskate. |
Agree, it’s more Free People and Garage now. |
| Any of the teenager stores will have the type of clothes you are describing. Is she wanting cool brands/are certain stores considered uncool at her school? Because that stuff is really school and even crowd specific. Maybe give her a visa gift card or store gift card that is specifically for clothes so she doesn’t worry about the rip off feeling? |
| 100% echo Poshmark. Get an account and have her browse for a bit. You might want to help her out figuring out fit at first. You can filter on size; it's also very helpful to look at specific garment measurements. Lots of sellers will post garment measurments (waist and "pit to pit" which is a rough guide to bust measurment). She should measure things she has that fit in the way she likes, and use those as a guide. |
I think you mean pacsun. |
sorry, i meant to quote the poster who said "pacific sun" |
|
Poshmark!
Thrifting is definitely in as well, and not contributing to consumerism, slave labor, and exclusive brands like BMellville, Victoria Secret, and Hollister. Brands that will welcome her into “womanhood,” so think capsule wardrobe. Think Quality. |
It used to be called Pacific Sunwear. If you grew up in CA in the 90s you knew it as Pacific Sunwear. |
No, I mean Brandy. |
| I was an artsy teen and bought my own clothes-mostly at thrift stores and vintage shops. Maybe have her look at ModCloth? |
Brandy weathered the bad press about the one size for a while but they have been exposed by formers employees on tik tok and you tube and it’s reLly harming the brand this article https://www.smdp.com/__trashed-763/195698 |

How artsy are we talking? If she is into alt fashion at all, go HERE: https://www.yesstyle.com/
TRUST ME. My kid just got these: https://www.yesstyle.com/en/bbchic-plain-short-sleeve-crop-top-high-waist-wide-leg-jeans/info.html/pid.1074991122 She loves them more than she has ever loved any garment. The stuff takes forever to get to the states -- this is not Amazon prime -- but it's inexpensive and you will find allll the "cool" stuff. Again it depends what "cool" is to her -- how artsy, exactly? -- but my kid is very fashion forward, skews kind of edgy, and this is where she is shopping now. Also romwe, shein.com - Chinese sites. I haven't ordered her stuff from these but her friends buy stuff there. https://www.unifclothing.com/ = v. expensive but passes the cool test. for now. Also the 90s are back so anywhere they sell Dickies or even JNCO. Ugh. I would not spend money on those for my teen but YMMV. Most useful: She should find social media accoutns to follow with style she admires. Cool is such a moving target, now more than ever because of social media. Remember VSCO girls? Llike who even remembers that was ages ago lol |
| For baggy pants, you get men’s jeans from a thrift store and then cinch the waist with a belt or shoe lace. I’m surprised she doesn’t want crop tops. |
| Entireworld? |
I think a lot of teen girls buy their clothes from cheap stores they find on Amazon. If she just types in "teen baggy pants," that will probably get her started. Forever 21 actually has a lot of different styles, even though they skew trendy/flashy. Also, Tillys has more of a skater style. |
