No need to help them out and leave a history.

Yes. You're giving the enemy an unnecessary advantage by allowing your post history to be searched like that. For example you'd be able to click mine right now and see that I'm THAT poster from the legendary green bean casserole thread.

There's also that issue of that political candidate who logged into her 'real' DCUM account and thought she was anonymous. She then proceeded to trash talk herself and people got screenshots.

She was still elected. Amy something I think in Virginia.

I would be more easily identifiable if I had an account and always posted under it, because my family situation is not common. So I prefer to stay anonymous.

Op, fyi what I do is bookmark the conversations that I have started, or those I want to come back to. This is because it is hard, sometimes, to find something if a few days go by and the topic could be in a few different categories.

I've also bookmarked a couple of threads that I might need in a year or so (school-related but not relevant to my kid until next year)

OP back again. I can see your point re: piecing info together if you're giving identifying information. I guess I'll just log out in those cases. I'm going to see how this goes for a few days though.

I have an account I rarely use. Why? Because people on this site are f#$%ing crazy. I mean like get an injunction, stalk me and my kids kind of crazy.

Just not worth it.

(p.s. though I think the site would be a lot less crazy if people were required to register with a real name)

Because of this:

Now you don’t have many, but after almost 11 years here of almost daily use, it would be too much information all pieces together in 1 place.

I would be curious to see mine. But I wouldn’t want anyone else to! I didn’t even know that view was possible on the user end. I always assumed Jeff sees things like this based on IP address or device.

It's not that deep.

Just click on the “profile” button in the OP. It’s that easy.

Er yeah that's the point. Anyone can if you're registered, even anonymous users.

There will be a price to pay for you having a username. Give it time, and you will see.

I can identify certain posters immediately anyway

Can you imagine how people would use your old posts against you ? If you once said you hate cilantro and then asked for a guac recipe, they would tear your head off and say youre a liar and a fake who doesn't deserve guac. And that's just on a simple innocent question.
